Saturday night my female cockatiel Sundance was bitten in the leg quite badly by my female lovebird. she managed to escape from her cage.
Sundances leg is quite swollen, she is hobbling around, it's tender and she looks miserable.:(
I treated her with steptic powder to stop the bleeding, applied soother x cream from Harrisons, gave her a heat lamp, and I'm giving her iron drops in her water.

I could not find a vet open yesterday(sunday)no matter where I phoned,so today I'm taking her in. She's in a lot of discomfort, and does not put up much of a fight when I pick her up....she is not tame, and is very feisty normally.

Now my lovebirds are in 'lockdown' with dog clips on all the doors.:09:

I hope your baby is OK. Let us know what the vet says. Try not to beat yourself up about it--accidents happen.

Sundance is back. The vet that was available today(not my regular avian vet) was very nice, and after examining Sundance, was very up front and explained that he was not comfortable treating her, he is only trained in basic care for birds. he did prescribe meloxicam for pain, and only charged me half the cost of a regular visit, no charge for the meds.
her leg is really swollen, off colour(purplish) I'm worried that she is having circulatory problems, and/or may becoming infected. Tomorrow won't come soon enough for me, or Sundance.
On a good note, on the way home I had the radio on and she perked right up when she heard "Hotel California" by the Eagles...too funny. she cocked her head and started chirping away and making funny noises.
She's eating fine, her poop is good, but she is not herself and quite uncomfortable
I have a heat lamp on her, gave her the prescribed medication and is back with her mate, and eating.

I hope your birdie will be okay. But if she's eating well, and her droppings look normal then that's a good sign. That's good too that you were able to give her the pain medicine, so at least she'll be feeling a little better. She's probably just stressed out.

You're doing everything you can. I just noticed you posted this a couple of days ago, so hopefully you've been able to take Sundance back to the vet. Try not to panic, you're doing everything you can and I think she will be fine.
