Stewart, Jardines Parrot, 2 years old
Odie, Yellow Fronted Amazon, 19 years old
We have had Odie since May. He is a 19 year old Yellow fronted amazon. He has been in at least 5 homes and the past 5 years was in a home where he was caged all the time.
When we first got him he and I bonded instantly and he was wanting to be with me or on me all the time. He was very sweet and cuddly unless he could see our other bird, Stewart. If he gets a glimpse of him he gets very obsessed with getting to him. His eyes start pinning, his tail flairs and he starts panting. I end up having to get between them which means i get bit almost every time.
For the past month Odie has been staying on his cage almost all the time. Before that he would get on my shoulder or step up on my arm and spend time with me every day. But he started either running from me or trying to bite me when i offer him an arm or a shoulder.
He wasnt getting down and leaving his cage at all.
2 days ago out of the blue he wandered into the living room. He was sneaking and trying not to be seen. Once he got close enough to me, he lunged and attacked my feet. I put up a hand and told him no, which made him stop. he wandered off for a bit, then came back and tried to attack my feet again. I did the same thing. I went and put shoes on to keep him from getting ahold of my feet. Every time I would stand up he would lunge at my feet. Sometimes he would stop when i told him, other times he would get ahold of my shoe and wouldnt let go. When he did this i would put him in his cage for a bit.
Yesterday he was still going for my feet but after i would tell him no he would crawl up on the couch, get next to me (which is a few feet away from stewarts play center), would bend down so i could scratch his neck, would step a little closer then he would attack. Once he got a good bite on me he wouldnt let go for anything. he grabs with his claws and bites down hard. So back in the cage he would go.
Today he is literally stalking me. he is not even trying to pretend to be nice or asking me to scratch him. When i open the cage he is right on the floor hunting me down. as soon as he gets close enough he attacks. I put him in the cage and he starts talking up a storm, although i cant understand a word of it.
He is obviously upset with me directly, he isnt stalking anyone else in the house, although none of them will even attempt to go near him at this point. I have bloody bite marks on both hands, my shoulder, my legs...he is very sneaky when he attacks.
I hate to leave him caged all the time, but at this point I cant let him out without him stalking me. I know he is jealous of Stewart, but that is not new, and there hasnt been any changes.
Any suggestions on how to get my loving, cuddly bird back??

Just a quick thought before I go to work, Ill leave more when I get a moment. If I read correctly, the two cages are near each other? If so, perhaps separate them?

Like Sooze is suggesting, separate the cages, even going as far as putting Odie's cage in a separate room where he can't see Stewart and see if he acts differently with you. Maybe a time out in another room will help with his aggressiveness. Your poor feet!!!! Oh and can you make him stay off the floor? Mine stay on their cages, perches and play tops. Recently Venus has gotten on the floor twice and I pick her up and right back to her playtop she goes. It's safer for them and your feet!!!

Amy attacks my feet also!! And she got me REAL GOOD last week while I was barefoot!
I think I figured it out tho..she will be on the living room floor, walking towards,or being NEAR,The Cockatoo Man's house. As I think about it,she would also attack, while being on the floor, and wandering towards Smokey's house <both Amy and Smokes/Jonesy's houses are in the living room> across the room from each other. So maybe Odie thinks you are going to cheat on him and play with Stewart??

The behavior mod for birds who chase/attack feet is already posted.

You get a big pillow, and you use the pillow to turn the tables on him when he does it.

Back his little butt into the corner, and let him sit there and think about what he just did, feeling helpless for a second. Not the big bad birdie anymore are we?! NOW KNOCK IT OFF. STEP UP NICE. NO BITING!

If you are not the one in charge, your bird will think he is. He will use his beak to manipulate you. (BECAUSE IT'S WORKING FOR HIM. WHEN IT NO LONGER WORKS, THEY STOP DOING IT! If it COMPLETELY BACKFIRES on them, they stop doing it sooner!) Evil Bird psychology 101.

As for the other stuff. Amazons can sometimes be very territorially aggressive and jealous with other birds. Yours is. Watch them closely, and take steps to protect the other bird if he starts acting aggressive. KEEP THEM APART.
