Woohoo! I've just had my final mark for Classical Greek and I've scored 91% for the year! I'm beyond happy!!! All that work was worth it!

That's the plan! In fact, it's Xenophon I'm really angling after. He wrote a treatise on training horses that I'm busting to read. I've had a go at the beginning and it's not too bad. In fact, one of the first points he makes is 'no foot, no horse'. That rings true with what I know, so I'm looking forward to the time when I feel competent to read the original Greek.

PS. My study buddy has been trying to persuade me to start studying Sanskrit with her. I gotta say, I'm tempted...

Ohhh you should learn Aramaic and then you could read a lot of original documents like the Dead Sea Scrolls lol! I am fascinated by the scriptural changes that have occurred over the years due to translations from Aramaic to Greek to English etc. not really religious btw, but I love stuff like that.

Learning a second language is quite an accomplishment! My youngest son has the opportunity to learn either Spanish, German, Italian or Mandarin in high school. He opted for Italian, but I told him that learning Mandarin would guarantee that upon graduating High School, he could have landed a 6 figure salary right off the bat as a business interpreter, With the integration of East and West these days, even more so than when he was in HS, that figure is probably too low. Reading in Classic Greek is gonna show you how much their words have been scrambled up over the ages. Cool beans!

I learned Swedish at home (GrandMother) and German in High School. The German led me to a long string of positions with European based corporations and tons of traveling between North America and Europe.

I have a ton of great stories that knowing Swedish was the foundation. FYI: The most dangerous flight in Europe is between Norway and Sweden as the Swedes all travel to Norway to purchase liquor (thus avoiding the Sin Tax). The overheads and under seat space is filled with liquor bottles!!!

Me too! It never ceases to amaze me that it's still possible to read the words of the ancients just as they wrote them down. In fact, the Dead Sea Scrolls really interest me as well and I wonder like mad what the as-yet-unopened ones contain. AFAIK, there's no one to teach Aramaic at our local universities or I'd strongly consider it. (Might be some in Sydney, but they don't do distance education).

You should consider taking up Latin and/or Greek if you have that affinity for languages and old documents. The satisfaction of being able to read them is amazing!

I’ve been in this country for 20 years and I’m still struggling to speak Australian. . And I ain’t never gonna get the 'rhyming slang' down. Heard my hubby refer to me as his ‘Charley Wheeler’ when speaking to his ‘china plate’ and that did me in!!!! Why couldn't he just have said this is my wife when speaking to his mate.:04::04::04:
