Nutriberries?

Can my new pionus have nutriberries when I decide to give it nuts? Also, should pellets be kept in his cage all day even though they're prone to being overweight?

Cute bird! . Yes and yes. Nutriberries in small amounts are fine and some birds love them ( one of my budgies eats half of one and then throws the remaining half on the floor of the cage. I think she likes the “clunk” sound it makes). You can free feed pellets but also make sure your bird gets fresh veggies and fruits ( you probably already know that). If you are concerned about weight, a lot of people on this forum use a kitchen scale to do regular weight checks on their birds. Seems like a great way to keep an eye on this aspect of your bird’s health.

He's been pooping diarrhea since we got him yesterday. Could that be his nerves or should I be concerned? Also, he will not come out of his cage.

Did you or are you going to have an appointment with a certified avian vet? I always do this with a new bird if nothing else to get a baseline. If it is an unexpected "adoption" I get them in as fast as possible. I quarantine but this gives me a read on their health and helps to protect my other birds.
It maybe the stress (hopefully is) but with birds the wait and see is not always the best plan of action

Yep! My white-capped Pi, Voritex, LOVES Nutriberries and calls when she sees the bag, LOL! I never had a bird that didn't like them .

Nutraberries are part seed and part pellet. My amazon likes specific flavors of them. He gets 1 or 2 with breakfast and 3 crushed up into his chop for supper ( they are good for absorbing excess water in the chop). I leave some pellets in his dry food bowl all day, but he uses them as a kind of snack instead of main food.

Nutriberries are considered a complete diet. Can actually be fed as their main source of food, along with vegetables of course.

Absolutely he could be stressing from the change. When you say diarrhea, what do you mean? Diarrhea and watery poop are two different things.

Nutriberries are considered a complete diet. Can actually be fed as their main source of food, along with vegetables of course.

Although the packaging does say that they can be fed as the main portion of the diet, corn syrup is used to bind the ingredients together in Nutriberries. For this reason, I wouldn’t recommend them as a diet staple but more as a treat. Just my opinion.

Stress can/will cause watery poop almost instantly. Im assuming the fecal is formed and the rest is clear watery.
