Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum. I have a 5.5 year old Pineapple Conure named Kiwi, and she regularly has nutri berri treats. But by accident, i bought a bag of the senior bird variant, and was a bit concerned when i saw it had stuff like ginger and glucosamine.

https://lafeber.com/product/senior-bird-nutri-berries-for-parrot-10oz/

I know that ginger can be harmful to these birds, so i wasnt sure if i should give them to her.

She normally has 2-3 per day along with various fruits or veggies.

Anyone have experience with this product and knows whether its 110% safe for her ?

Please let me know!

Hello and welcome to the forum.
Lafeber is company dedicated to parrots. I have read many of the wonderful articles they write in support of parrot behavior and health.

I can only google like you, i did find a different source that saud a small amount is ok.....

But I don't really know a 110%......

But I do trust the company, and i am not affiliated with them :)
And I trust them enough im getting these for my old lady burd Penny! So thanks for letting me know about them

I read the ingredients, milk thistle is good.
And I hate soy, they have that listed way lower than most every other o
Pellet, which means it contains less.

In my anti soy campaign I found it is hidden in so many human foods ( read your labels),....ugh...ok got off topic :)

Lafeber is a great company! Unfortunately, in my case, JoJo wonā€™t touch any of them! Frustrating cuz I had a bunch of free stuff sent to me in a drawing I won! I ended up using them as dog treats! Very happy pups!

Where are my manners! Welcome to you!

I thought ginger was okay for birds?

I used to feed ginger semi regularly to my flock. It is an antiinflammatory and mild pain reliever among other things. Most of my flock like the taste too. I haven't had ginger for several months now(thanks covid), but if I had it I would be giving it to my senior tiel and our special needs budgie at the very least. We have a couple plants of it, but in small pots and just in the window(no plant light on them), so I don't think there are any harvestable roots right now.

I've had good luck with the products they make. Adding avi cakes into Alex's daily ration(just a small amount) has given him the pep of a younger bird. He begs for his "morning square" too. Loves that stuff! I should get a pack of the senior berries and see if he likes them as much as the regular cakes. He has some minor stiffness in his feet. And I'm sure Hima would benefit from them too.

Their berries and cakes do have a lot of sugar in them, though. So if that is something you limit for your birds it is worth keeping in mind. Alex is a fatty fatty boombalatty so he only gets somewhere between a quarter of a small square to one square a day.

My bag of senior nutri berries arrived today! :D tomorrow AM we will see if Alex likes them as well as the avi cakes! And in a week or two I will report if there are any changes in how he acts. :)

Great!!! HOPE Alex likes them, and feels better. I haven't found in stores, guess I will have to order.

I give them to my 23 year old Ekkie. He loves them. My local parrot specialty store has them.

I feed these as a supplemental food/treats to my peeps and have for a few years now. Ginger is great from a health standpoint.
