November's POTM Theme is
Giving Thanks!

This month is an easy one! Just post a favourite picture of your feathered baby and tell us something your bird does that you are thankful for.

The contest will run thru November 28th, and a poll for voting will be up on the 29th. Winner will be announced on December 1.
The winner will receive a Supporting Membership for a year, and their photo will be on the front page for the month of December.

Example:

I'm thankful when Ekko makes me laugh.

Thank you for November's POTM Contest, Terry! Great theme!

Great contest there's so many things about Timneh I'm greatful for most of all being so understanding of a clumsy inexperienced human. I hope I've brought as much love and happiness to her as she has to me. I had recently lost a good friend when I found Timneh, and then again she helped me when I lost my four legged best friend. Amazing African Grey thank you Timneh. I don't know why but I have a thing for kissing my little chickens legs.

Good one, Terry!
I'm glad you're makng it about what WE are grateful for, not the parrots. My first thought... OH, NO, THE RICKEYBIRD ISN'T GRATEFUL FOR ANYTHING!

Awww, a wonderful thing to be grateful for!I am sure that Timneh is just as grateful for having you in her life:)

I'm thankful for having someone (Jordan) scream at me (and give a good nip) every time I mess up the daily routine.

Jordan does so much, sometimes I wonder who's training who?

Wonderful POTM theme, Terry!

And I'd also like to thank you for stepping in to do this even though it was my turn this month. Sometimes life brings a little rain, and having such beautiful and selfless friends (yeah, Allee and Scott, I'm looking at y'all, too!) all willing to shelter you with their own umbrellas makes all the difference.

My pleasure, Stephen...we are family,and we love you. My umbrella is your umbrella:)

I've had the opportunity to work as a productive member of some pretty amazing teams but, Doc, Terry & Ace, you are the best, just the best.

There have been days this past year that by the end of the day I am tremendously thankful to hear the sound of grinding beaks. :)

Honestly, I am truly grateful for all my little loves, it's tough to choose just one thing my birds do that I'm thankful for but if I must, then my gratitude goes to my Sammy, without fail, every evening when I turn the lights off in the quakers' room Sammy tells me, "Good night, Precious!" I adore this little guy.

JUST FOR FUN...

I 'M GRATEFUL when the Rb calls my name. I have my ol' man to thank, due to his habit of calling me from all ends of the house and yard (do all men do that??). So I get "Oh, Gay-ull? GAYYYYUL! Gayulll, hello? Gayull!" in a faithful imitation of my ol' man's Texas drawl. This is a still from a video. I have posted the vid here before.
[ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McSBlO6bxVc"]rickeybirdproductions: "GAYYYULLL!" - YouTube[/ame]
At one point, he yells my name about 14 times in less than 60 seconds. That's about once every 4 seconds or so, and he can keep it up for a long time.
But truly, I'm even more grateful for the opposite phenomenon.

MY NOVEMBER ENTRY...

I'M GRATEFUL when the Rb is silent... which means... ASLEEP!

*excuse this long post.*

I'm sorry, but I can't pick just one of my feathered kiddos and the reason 'why'. I'm thankful for them'

They each make me so thankful everyday in many ways and to single 1 thing out? Impossible.

**Mira**
This girl has taught me the meaning of 'First impressions aren't always accurate.'. She seems like a total bully, a brat, and a wuss. But she's a ham who wears her emotions on her sleeve, with a 'I just want to sit with you and blow kisses' personality.

**Kellan**
This little beast? He's taught me 'Bonds aren't all sunshine and rainbows. But we can pull through with patience.' After me becoming sick and his hormones caused a huge rift between us, I thought I'd lost my little wacky man. But after a while of steady patience, he's back to being my goof ball who main goal is to get as many kisses and foot massages as possible :D. Oh, and he's taught me the meaning of LOUD :D

**Mouse**
If you look up "a-dork-ible" in the dictionary, you'll find this girl's photo :D she's taught me the meaning behind the phrase 'I'm not weird, I'm limited edition.' This bird doesn't act like a bird at all ROFL. She acts more like a human. Her favorite thing? Sitting on my arm and reclining back against my chest like she's in a porch swing... And blowing raspberries.. She loves that too ;)

**Happy**
This old girl has taught me 'Coming from bad situations don't define us'. After coming to me from a BAD situation, she's come MILES from where she was. That 50+ year old, aggressive, lethargic, blind, ratty looking skeleton covered in feathers, the creature everyone said to euthanize, has turned a corner! And while she still has her issues, the fact that you can see she enjoys certain things, like singing and getting scratches from me only, makes the time, money, and different ways of interaction it worth it

**Rhage**
Oh, heavens. This boy? He's taught me a lot! But the most important? 'Laughter is the best cure.' It has never mattered how bad my day was... This guy? His fun loving antics have me laughing so hard at times I cry. It's like his main goal in life is too make me laugh. He has also taught me recently, 'Be careful how you raise them' ROFL.

**Conlan**
My right wing girl. My second in command. My Savior. This little diva changed my world. She saved my world. She's taught me 'You are never alone.' and 'No words are needed. Simply being there is enough.'

She's seen me sick, she's come to my aid after I fainted, she's helped pull me away from a self-harming issue, she's been my rock. She gets her happiness from simply being with me, perched on my glasses, reading a book. She's given me so much love, taught me so many lessons, not just about birds, and brought me so much laughter, frustration, and sass it's unimaginable.
~~~~~~~~~~
So to answer the question, what does my bird do that I'm thankful for..
Everything. The good and the bad.
I'm thankful for their lessons they have taught me. The unconditional love they give. The laughter they bring to my life. The peace I feel when I'm with them. The drive to face each day.
They give me a reason to better myself. To push myself to be better... So I can give them better in return.
And for all that, and so much more, I will NEVER be able to put how thankful I am for ALL of them and the things they do, into words :)
LoveMyConlan... I wouldn't be able to choose either.
All precious. And beautiful.
And you're cute, too! :)
MY NOVEMBER ENTRY...
MdXUqN3.jpg
Gail, you crack me up!
I'm thankful when Ducky spreads his gorgeous wings!
What beautiful wings they are!
Phenomenal entries thus far! We've seen pacifier-wielding ekkies, leg-kissed greys, disciplinarian-lovies, smooth-talking Quakers, shouting/sleeping yet ever-entertaining Rickeybirds, majestically-winged 'tiels, and heartfelt love letters to a beautiful flock of six!
Loving it! Keep those entries coming, folks!
Here's a Just For Fun Entry! I'm thankful that Jolly has been a little less exuberantly... jolly about trying to get his swerve on with me! Thanks for remembering the Bro Code, you silly bird!
p5Crt3z.jpg
(Pardon the puffy eyes. Haven't had much by way of sleep, lately. Lol!)
These are all amazing! I'm thankful for all of your posts. Here's mine:
I'm thankful for the quiet moments when he shows me how comfortable he is here with me.
What a great picture of Duke, and a wonderful thing to be thankful for. That is one of the things I am grateful for as well:)
Anansi... love that shirt. Maybe you need one that says "Swerve like Jolly", though!
Tasha... best thing for me in your photo... all the bird toys and stuff all over the place! This bird is definitely AT HOME.
