It's thanks to this forum that I knew what to do immediately! We caught it really quickly. It's funny, it was the sound of her flight that alerted us to it before we saw the blood. It was different some how and once the feather was removed her flight sound was normal again. I'm glad we caught it quickly .The feather shaft has come out whole, so thankfully Nova should be ok as that generally stops the bleeding when the follicle closes over. Clean up best achieved with a cotton ball dampened with warm water. Thank goodness you were able to help take care of this for Nova, broken blood feathers can be very dangerous!
