Nothing like holding a penguin to cheer you up!PIC and Vid Heavy!

My friend owns a rescue, and also bird sits. She got a call a couple of days ago asking if she would bird sit a baby penguin. We did not even believe it was real until this baby was dropped off last night. I was so fortunate to spend the day today with this adorable baby. He is an African Rock Penguin, and so cute it made my teeth hurt! He was hatched on Feb. 8 and weighed 40 grams. He now weighs 1500 grams.

I am SO jealous Terry! Your are so lucky to have been able to play with a penguin Mr. penguin is *adorable* (does he have a name?).

How long will your friend be watching the penguin for and where will he be heading after he grows up (a zoo or back to nature)? Is he staying in some kind of cage or enclosure or does he just kind of stay put on the blanket? I was also wondering if he's wearing a diaper in that first photo? Thanks for sharing!

The only thing I could compare his softness to would be a fleece blanket...we just couldn't stop petting him. And the poop is nothing like parrot poop...yikes.

His poops are liquidy, and he squirts them quite a distance! They smell just like rotten fish..lol. He only wore the diaper when he was going to be held, then back to au natural for him.

He doesn't have a name yet as they are waiting for DNA to come back.
And yes, the stench was horrible (so was his breath!)
It was so exciting, I can't even put it into words.
I think some of my penguin fever has passed...yesterday I was obsessed that I MUST have at least 2, and today rational thought has set in and barring a lottery win and an acreage I think I will just be visiting

I wish you were close April so you could meet him! He doesn't have a name yet, waiting on the DNA to come back. He will be with my friend for a week.
He will be kept as a pet. The guy who owns him works with penguins and seals and is setting up a huge habitat for him and his future
friends.
Right now he is in a large aquarium to sleep for his birdsit
And yep, that is a diaper. That was amusing trying to get it on!

All I wanted to do was snuggle. She had to almost run us off at the end of the day!
She had a plumber out to her house yesterday, and when she apologized for the fishy smell and explained it was the penguin, he was astonished..lol. Had to take selfies with the little guy.
