I need to clean the oven. Oven cleaner is out of the question. Household items and solutions to clean off the really caked on stuff.

I used to use brillo pads, until my hand accident

Moisten your oven surfaces with water using a sponge.
Mix 3/4 cup of baking soda, 1/4 cup of salt and 1/4 cup of water in a bowl.
This should form a thick paste. You may use an old toothbrush to pre-scrub tough spots. Spread the mixture throughout the entire oven interior and let it sit overnight. Do not heat the oven as heating is not necessary with this cleaning procedure. Remove the solution with a spatula the next day. Once all of the solution is removed, wipe the oven clean with a damp sponge.

Ok thanks I will try that. Any tips on getting papaya stains and papaya poop stains out of a carpet?

Yes we tried Poop-Off. We scrubbed like crazy for several days. It worked a little. But still a little orange dot. We might just have to carefully cut it out of the carpet :/

I can't get the link to open, maybe it is just my tempermental computer. I swear my computer has the mind of a parrot.

They do make some oven cleaning products that are low-volatile and "green". I used one with no harm to my birds -- but a lot of elbow grease was required.

I prefer to occasionally run the self-clean cycle when the weather is such that the birds and I can hang out on the patio until the cycle has completed and the house has thoroughly aired out. You could probably take the same approach with a conventional oven cleaner if you wanted to do so.

Have you tried Nature's Miracle on the carpet? It is similar to Poop Off in that it is enzymatic, but I think it is more concentrated. YOu would saturate the spot and leave it for a while, then blot up the residue as thoroughly as possible with a paper towel or absorbent cloth. The idea is that the product "digests" the organics, then you extract the residue. Might work with a significant amount of Poop Off and no scrubbing, but giving it time for the exzymes to break down the stain.

I line the bottom of my oven with tin foil, that way I can just change the foil and not have to use oven cleaner which I can't tolerate myself :)
