Noise at night?

my futer QP's cage will be located in the second most used room in the house. and at night that room is pretty quiet. just my little bro playing video games and maybe somebody watching TV. so not loud. but our living room is very close and there are no doors in between the rooms. not even a full wall. and there are people up until at least 1 am on any given night and we can be very loud. my brother screams and whines about EVERYTHING and my dogs start play fighting ocassionally and will bark but we stop them within a few barks each. my cage will be covered by a blanket and hopefully after everyhting else is taken care of and i get some mre $$$ i will get a real cover. will that keep my bird up? or is it okay?

i think it would definitely keep your bird up, and a sleep deprived bird is a nippy bird. You could try a sleeping cage. All you need is a smaller cage or decently sized bird carrier. When its bed time put him in there and take him upstairs or to a quiet part of the house, and cover it with a light blanket. In the morning move him to his regular cage. I stay up late and Cosmo's cage is out in the living room . So I have a smaller cage in my bedroom that he uses just for Sleeping . It doesn't have to be very big .....Here is the one I use for Cosmo

My birds don't seem to mind. They settle down around 9 pm with their cover over them and they are out for the count. And I'm normally still in the room until 3am some time my son is here with me making noise but the bird have got use to us noisy humans and seem to block us out. But the sleep cage might work for you if your worried the bird is being keeped awake.

thanks! i will be getting a carrier for travel. so if he stays up i can use that in my room until i can get a little bit bigger normal cage for sleep. i hope mine is like didomum's and doesnt mindXD

This thread makes me think of some of the wild lorikeet populations here. There is one busy intersection inparticular where for some reason all the local rainbow lorikeets come to roost. Hundreds of them! When driving past at dusk it becomes difficult to hear the radio haha!
It is a busy intersection with cars stopping and going all night long and they seem to do just fine.

A bird needs at least 10 to 12 hours of undisturbed sleep
Sleep is important indeed. Without a good night’s sleep, a bird is likely to be grumpy, and with prolonged lack of sleep, real behavior problems can occur.

Perhaps place the bird in a smaller cage in your bedroom.

Mishka has always slept in my bedroom, where it is quiet, and he never gets disturbed.

He goes down to sleep at 8pm, then awakes about 5am, only +- 9 hours sleep, but totally undisturbed.

I cover Codie at 9pm and then close the door! Once they are asleep, they do not like being disturbed!! It makes them cranky the next day

The sleep cage in the room is good. Just ensure if it's your room, be cautions of the aircon (making the room too cold) and that the cover used using too thick to make it hot/not ventilated enough.

We dont have this problem over here in the UK as it dosen't get that hot and we do not have Air Conditioning in our Homes.

lol, my partner would LOVE that! He ALWAYS wants the aircon on, and I'm always complaining how cold it is. hehe (We're in North Queensland, Australia)

I'll let him put it on in summer though, because the house can get hot and stuffy >< (Temps up to 34C!)
