I have an 8 yr old U2 named Sheba, She laid an egg 4 days ago and is acting strange. I left the egg in her cage so she would get through the hormonal cycle that she has been in. Today, all she has done is sit on that egg. She has come out of her cage to eat a little and drink a little water. No interest in playing, cuddles, or even scratches. She has not even spoke today, just very quiet. She has an appointment with her Vet tomorrow. I was wondering though if anyone here had any advice or perhaps has gone through this.

I wouldn't have thought that unusual because she is doing an instinctive behaviour and birds sitting on eggs do not advertise the fact in the wild, it leaves them open to attack.
Is this a one and only egg she has laid and are you counting how many days she has been on it? You say she is eating and drinking which is good. The vet appointment will give you reassurance. Let us know how Sheba gets on.

I saw something interesting on one of the vet shows a few weeks ago... a subcutaneous birth control thing they can give your bird that can shut down the hormones ( I guess) and perhaps stop the egg laying. Totally agree with Plumsmum on the behavior part of it. Only worry to me would be trying to stop the egg laying ASAP... too much potential for getting egg bound, and even if they don't, her trying to lay/hatch is stressful on your bird... IMHO anyways

Yes, I have been counting the days and today is day 5. Thanks for the tip on the birth control thing I will check into it with my Vet today. Me and Sheba are going to see him in a few hours. I will keep you both posted as to what is going on with her. Thank you both for your responses. Oh, and Plumsmom. this is her 3rd egg she has laid, two within the same week.
