Cody has started nipping a little but it is in the middle of snuggles and playing. It is almost like he is getting overly excited and cannot control himself lol. Is this usual? How can I stop it? I have been taking him back to his cage but since I am STILL having issues getting him off me and on his perch or in his cage this doesnt always work.

how and where are you petting him??

it does read like his gettin over excited, so watch fro the signals and slow down or stop

you could be doing something your bird views as sexual, and this can cause problems later on

I'm rubbing the top of his head and his neck. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong.

lol heads fine :) you just have an over excitable birdie :)

as for the cage, always put in a treat, his fav and only use it when you want him in, it won't work over night, but in time he'll get the idea ;)

You have to be stern with him tight now with stepping up and listen to commands. He's testing how far he can go with you right now. So he's doing just nipping for now and you must tell him no nipping. Are you providing him with lots of toys and stuff to stimulate him with?

When I'm handling Amigo and it's time to go back in his cage, I'll set a towel on my lap or arm and have him walk on to that, slip my hands under the towel to set him back in. Not always easy, he has a super power grip and if not ready to get put back will hang on for dear life. With the towel, I can slip my hand out from under him and make him grab a perch. My skin is thin and his nails can draw blood, let alone his beak.
