I made Nico another chop. I ordered the BirdTricks seasonal feeding system. Whatever I was making Nico would eat for a week, and then stop eating it. So far so good! He ate some of it. It’s a start.

My conure refused it as she attacks anything new, or won’t go near it. Hopefully with time she’ll give it a chance.

Birds are SO picky when it comes to their food. They should be food critics!

Nico is being… well Nico. He is going through a “I hate tail feathers” faze. I wanted to post photos so if others have a parrot that feather plucks they can see these rings. This is because Nico is chewing around the feather shaft as it’s growing out. It looks like he has something weird going on as it grows out but it truly is feather destruction behavior.

Yes we have a few of these daily. I have a needy Ekkie! Males are a lot more needy then the females.

My birds behave themselves(most of the time), I guess I got lucky. Never had them throw a tantrum.

Nico has decided the best thing for him is to eat around his medication. So we now eat our birdie cookie, and bread except for the parts that have medication on them. We don't touch anything that may look like it has medication on it, or in it.

There are days that I want to just have Nico spend the day with his vet. I just need a break! I love this little green guy with all of my heart but he has been getting the best of me. I have a lot of patience but he likes to test it.

Nico has decided the best thing for him is to eat around his medication.

With Toby's lastest infection, I had to experiment giving him his meds. After several attempts with different treats, I found that I could mix it in with smooth almond butter. The "natural" almond butter got flung across the room because of how it stuck to his beak.

I have tried a lot of different things. I am now the "mean bird mom". I had to resort to the syringe. I couldn't get him to take his meds with anything. He would eat around it, or not drink it. He would use his beak to flip the bowl as well. He's going through terrible two's or something. I didn't know what else to do. I didn't want to poke at his vet about this. I am trying to figure out if he could see the meds or something. I can't imagine he could smell them.

It could be a change of color. Parrots apparently, might be able to see in the ultraviolet range and see colors we humans can't!
