Awwwwwwwwwww poor baby Nico. Go well at the vet tomorrow, you handsome young man, I'll be thinking of you!

Thank you, Nico had to meet with a different vet today than his usual. The first vet cancelled about 45 minutes before his appointment. This has been an issue in the past as well. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but once it becomes a consistent issue I need to move on. Especially when I’m dealing with a sick parrot. The sniffles get the best of him.

Nico’s lost about 10 grams. He was put on sulfatrim for an infection. Hopefully he starts to feel better.

I just wonder if Nico got an infection due to me not being able to power wash his cage in winter. He flings his chop, and regurgitates on his cage. I do my best to wash his cage bars thoroughly every single week. Sometimes every day depending on how bad the regurgitation is. Maybe it’s not enough. Not to mention there are areas of his cage that I really cannot get to without power washing. He does have a stainless steel cage that I purchased in hopes that bacterial overgrowth isn’t as prevalent.

Oh I'm sorry things didn't quite go to plan today, @kme3388, nothing like a last minute cancellation to add to your stress! I fee your pain about the vets, my most trusted vet Adrian Gallagher (local legend!!) retired in January 2024, and although two of his offsiders remained at the clinic, one has since moved on too. I like the remaining vet well enough and Adrian would've taught him a lot in the few years they worked together, but he's very young. He might be much more proficient than I think, but having to see him in an emergency situation would freak me out.

Please don't blame yourself! I would think it unlikely, but you can't possibly account for every bit of food or poop that they leave behind, and they will ALWAYS find those leftover bits that we don't want them to. Heaven knows mine do, despite my running around cleaning up after them. All my best wishes are with you and Nico, and I hope the antibiotics do the trick

It is challenging because I believe Nico’s main vet since I’ve had him has had some struggles with mental health. I wish her the best. I hope she feels better soon. I know she’s a huge advocate in doctor burnout. I want to be supportive, but it gets challenging when she takes a sabbatical, and I am dealing with a sick parrot. That or the canceling of several appointments when I’m trying to get my parrot boarded while I’m on vacation. The avian boarding place requires labs before boarding parrots every year. I don’t always know how to handle these situations. Nico’s new vet did say she will also see a macaw. She can do labs as well she just said to call a few weeks before so they have the proper supplies. They can refer situations if need be. It’s also 10 minutes from my house instead of 1.5 hours away.
