newly adopted peach face with questions.

Some people believe in force cuddling, I just personally don't. It works on some birds and upsets and creates mistrust in others (not worth the risk).

Kawaii what are you referring to as a blue face Lovebird? There is no such mutation.

You're right! I thought I was told my previous bird was a blue/peach-face lovebird. However, he was actually a blue masked/peachfaced lovebird. Haha, I'm glad I looked that up. How embarrassing that I didn't even know the species of my own bird. . .

No problem! Don't be embarrassed, there is a lot of false information out there. So is your bird a hybrid? I'm a little confused by what you mean. A Peachface and a Masked are complete different species, and blue would simply be the mutation.

Yeah the false information is abundant. I bought a book on lovebirds just so I'd have something from a credible source, but I've even seen false information published by avian vets! The only way I knew it was false was that another avian vet published an article saying the exact opposite thing!(one of them had to be wrong, lol) Thats mainly why I started this thread, it's so frustrating searching for the correct info, just to be left unsure. I'm glad for these forums though, I found some clarity here with the vast knowledge base.

For Lovebirds you guys should both check out and possibly join ALBS. It's the African Lovebird Society, and they have every drop of info you could ever possibly need. There are a ton of groups on FB as well, with huge breeders from the Philippines and all over!

Hello, Depending on how old your lovebird is will help you with his diet. I raised my little guy since he was 8 wks. old and after the formula I fed him Harrison's Organic pellet - High Potency Super Fine. It wasn't until he was a year old that I gave him seeds as treats. Most owners feed seed... depends on your bird and what he has been fed.
It is advisable to invest in Love bird books and educate yourself with what to feed and what to avoid. Definitely NO Avocado!
I clean Kiwi's water dish everyday and only give him filtered water.
I change out his Harrison's Organic Pellets every other day since the food is rich and the pellets get hard. He doesn't over eat so I leave small veggie, fruit and seed mix in another clean hanging dish. In the mornings I use a clean juice bottle cap to give him uncooked Harina mixed with oatmeal. In addition to this food He eats a balanced diet of cooked eggs, veggies, meats and fruits. He loves a small piece of shredded meat; chicken, fish or steak... YES he is a meat eater! He loves tiny pieces of peeled tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots! He gets this every night. He likes round green peas IF you squeeze the shell. He is spoiled rotten and wants his food to be hand fed to him - at 3 1/2 yrs. old! (He is my only baby so be it)
You want to avoid what is bad for humans - salt, fats, sugars.
He likes watermelon and bananas. These fruits will make his stools runny... This is where millet sprays, Harina mixed with Oatmeal will help. The Harina is finely ground cornmeal that is cooked similar to Cream of Wheat. It is too powdery to be fed by itself so mixing it with uncooked Oatmeal works out great.
Flax seeds are packed with Omega 3 oils and is great for their beaks.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. My Peach faced Lovebird is my love, my baby and my Joy!

Funny thing, I have a brita filter on my faucet and I have still been giving him straight tap water! I feel like a bad parent!
