Catalina macaw-Kali
Hi, my name is Everette. I joined this forum to gather more information. I will soon be bringing home a Catalina macaw. He will be my first bird and I am extremely excited as I have spent the past 3 years educating myself. I volunteer at two parrot sanctuaries to gather hands on experience as well as obsessively read about them.
I am both excited and terrified about adopting a macaw. I want him to have everything and be spoiled! I have purchased his cage, built a few dozen toys, and a playstand. I also intend to convert one of my guest rooms into his room..
I would love to hear others advice for a first time parrot owner and any money saving suggestions! :blue1:

Hello, nice to have you here. That's gonna be the most spoiled parrot in the world:)
Do you bring a youngster or do you adopt an adult parrot?

The best way for you to really save is by making the toys on your own. Macaws can chew through wood toys like no tomorrow so they'll be going through a lot of wood. Can't wait to see your Catalina, they're beautiful!!!! Congrats!!!

I am getting a youngster from a breeder. I put the deposit down already and she just had two Catalinas hatch. She has been a wonderful breeder and even sent pics of them hatching! I haven't chosen which one I'm going to be getting yet. I have waited so long for this macaw and it's gonna be hard to wait until May or June to bring the baby home, after weaning is complete. I am lucky enough to have a great breeder that lives close by that I can visit:D

Hello, Everette, and welcome to the forum! Looking forward to pics of your baby macaw.
