Newbie senegal questions

Me and my husband are planning on getting our first senegal within the next couple of months but I have some question I'm hoping someone can answer. My first question is if it would be ok for my senegal to sleep in the same room as us? We live in a studio type house so everything is in one giant room basically. I have read about night terrors and I am worried that me getting up in the night or my alarm going off in the morning would scare him.

I'm sure the bird would adapt. We live in an RV, so I know all too well, living in small spaces. Both my birds do just fine.

My two sennies live in the living room and I don't cover them. They do fine and have never had a night terror. I think you'd be fine having them in the same room.

I agree. I don't have a Senegal, but I have 2 close relatives (Poicephalus family). They're adaptable birds. If they see that you're confident and comfortable with your home routine the way it is, and YOU don't act worried, they won't either they'll adjust just fine. I sleep near the birds and use an alarm.

Also does anyone know of a good breeder in the orlando area? We are going to the bird expo in October but I wasn't sure if they would have any senegal parrots there.

I like to "partially" cover my birds only because we live in such close proximity I want to create a darker environment for them so they are not disturbed by the light of the tv or any other light we may have on.

Covering at night is a personal choice. My vet says it's not necessary, but if you stay up late and they are sharing your space then you may want to.

Senegals are a popular bird in the US, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding one. One good place to start is by looking at birdbreeders.com I wouldn't worry about getting a bird shipped (it's perfectly fine for the bird), but it does cost a couple hundred extra.

I'd be weary of buying a bird at a bird fair/mart. There is a high potential for birds who (might look good outwardly) but are deadly disease carriers.

Really?! I had no idea. I have been searching all over the web for a breeder in my area but I haven't been able to find one. I don't really want to have one shipped as I would love to interact with it before I bring him home.

I keep my Sidney partially covered during the night. 3/4 of the cage covered and one corner near the night light uncovered. I usually put the birds to bed while there is still a little bit of daylight left so they find their preferred place. With Sidney, I usually find him on the perch in the uncovered portion of the cage in the mornings. But occasionally he will get himself into the darkest corner and be grumpy that I uncovered him. I like giving him the choice of where he wants to be. The only time he ever had a night terror was when I had his cage fully covered.
