Greenwing, Catalina and Military Macaw, 2 Congos, Patagonian Conure and a Maximillian Pionus
Hello, My name is Jen and I have 7 birds. A Greenwing, Catalina and Military Macaw, 2 Congos, a Patagonian Conure and a Maxi Pionus.
I am looking to get a Hyacinth Macaw. I've been doing a lot of research, but haven't found as much information as I would like. I would love to hear any feedback anyone has to share from diets to personality. Please share your stories :)

Gosh is there anybody? Not even a Welcome, am I posting in the right area?

But of course you'll get a welcome.

WELCOME to the forum, Jen. :)

...but I can't help you with your info on Hys as I don't have any experience with these Cadillacs of the bird world.

It's all right. I honesty must have overlooked your welcome thread, and I apologize.

Are you looking to get a baby Hy or are you looking to adopt an older bird?

A nearby store currently has 2 Hy babies (under 1 year) and each time I go there I spend a good amount of time snuggling with them AND dreaming of winning the lottery. :32: They are truly gentle giants. And MAGNIFICENT birds!!! :D

No biggie :). I'm looking to adopt a baby, I hear that Hy's rarely come through rescues, they do though from time to time. I'm trying to get all of my ducks in a row before I get one. I'm trying to get information about them from someone's own experience and recommendations. I feel I'm having a difficult time getting the information I need. There doesnt Seem to be a whole lot on the internet. I've got the basic idea, but I need more to be fully comfortable with my decision. I need a website that has the do's and don't of Hy's. I have a breeder but he's never had a Hyacinth, this would be his first. He's had everything else under the sun. I'm planning a visit to go see him next week to go over things, maybe he'll have the info I'm looking for ;). I'm not looking to get one until probably the fall, I need more time to research and build up my birdy savings :)

Cinnamon, you'll have to excuse Wendy...she's been a bit preoccupied with her garden & some new special type tomato plants.....then with her recent elevation to SUPER MODERATOR, I'm sure she has a lot on her plate.....

Let me also extend my welcome to the forum and offer that your initial post may have dissuaded potential greeters because they had nothing to offer in the way of Hy info...however, there are several members with Hys around here & they'll probably pop in.....

Welcome! I work with them at the zoo. Vary gentle and the ones we had where slow to anger, but you do you better make it good fast because they remember!
