I got my ekkie from people who used to feed him whatever they had. French fries, pizza, pasta, ect... I switched his diet and he has become a little piggy. Now the piggy comes out when he has his mash but he is still weird about the fruit. Ive tried big chunks and he doesnt like it. He prefers small little chunks of mixed fruit but sometimes he can be picky. I normally give him several fruits for breakfast. I switch them out according to whats in season and what I can get. So far he likes green apples, banana, guava, pomegranet, and kiwi. He is eating some mango and papaya lately. I usually mix some organic uncooked steel cut oats in with his fruit. He likes the crunchy of it. I tried them cooked but he prefers the crunch. I leave breakfast in his cage 1 hour after he wakes up because if leave it sooner he wont touch it. After I put it in, I take it out 2 hours later because he quits eating it and it gets yucky. Thru the day for snacks Ill give him 1/4 an ear of corn, 2 almond seeds total, and no more than 20 raw uncooked, unsalted sunflower seed I use for training ONLY because they are his favorite(previous owners used to leave a crap seed mix in all day.) I only use organic locally grown corn on the cob for a snack because Ive read studies about how most of the USA corn on the cob is a GMO(genetically modified) and causes kidney failure in test animals. I think I am rambling but on to dinner! Dinner is usually a orange mash (cooked and mashed pumpkin, sweet potato, carrot, summer squashes, whatever is in season) with some green mash (whatever green veggies I can find chopped chunky in a food processor. He likes parsley, cilantro, broccoli, green beans, zuchini, cucumber, ect.) Green peppers in slices (only pepper he will eat and the only way he will eat them,) some organic whole wheat pasta or brown rice, and some kind of bean (lentils, garbanzos, blackbeans.) I usually pre-cook once a week and make big batches and freeze them. I feed him from these batches 2 days at a time. Now I keep the orange mash, greeen veggie mash, and whatever beans and carbs seperate but when I serve it to him I mix it all together so he eats it all. Otherwise if i dont mix it, he will pick out just the carbs and leave everything else. I think thats it. hope this helps. Its a lot of work but I do it because the lovehe gives me in return is worth it. Now I have to wipe down his cage and change the underneath every day but in my eyes, its like having a kid. Id be doing a heck of a lot more anyways.
