I recently picked up a new bird for my teen daughter earlier this month at the local Appollos Birdstore in Everett, WA. This cute conure pushed the other two normal green cheeks aside and went right on my finger without hesitation. Totally sold itself and don't regret getting him or her.

Will be doing DNA testing soon to figure out sex and so far it's been a snuggly one that does get cranky a bit near bedtime. Loves being on the shoulder and tries to get your food when you're eating. Mango gets passed around between my daughter, my wife and I everyday to be used to all of us.

So far so good up til Sunday when Mango was giving itself a bath in a short glass cup in the kitchen. The near fatal mistake was shaking the wings and falling off the cup and landing six feet away from me. Mini doxie jaws were quick to grab ahold of the bird and i quickly grabbed the dogs neck thus getting the bird to be released without wasting time.
I noticed my name on the forum and it fits which is weird. A broken left wing and slight PTSD but Mango is doing fine and all taped up by the vet.

I am so glad your story ended up so well! My first bird/dog encounter left me sobbing with my parakeet dead in my hands. Welcome to the forum! We all come from a vast variety of experience, and we love that you have joined us!

I'm glad she is okay! Poor little thing.

I firmly believe a strong leave it command is necessary in dogs. Here's a great video.

Glad Mango is ok! We had our first bird/dog experience last week. I was playing with Tuzzi (our little dog) on the couch with her Lambchop toy. Apparently Ducati wanted to play with it too and eventually flew to Lambchop so we had Ducati attacking Lambchop and Tuzzi attacking Ducati. One really loud "NO" sent them they're separate ways with no harm done thankfully. So now no more Lambchop unless the cage is closed.
