Hey everyone,

I was wondering if any of you have any goals you set with your birds that you'd like to share. Whether it be spending more time with them, socializing them better or teaching them tricks.

Cliche I know...LOL!

We rescue adopted 2 cockatiels back in August, both of them are about 3 years old and from what I understand they WERE hand tame at one time, but they certainly haven't shown it since we've had them. It's safe to say, they were completely terrified of human contact.

I have no idea what happened to them to make them so afraid but in the 4 short months we've had them, they've both come a LONG way. However they are still not willing to be handled, AT ALL! When I open their cage doors, they come out on their own, that was a stepping stone, sometimes they'll fly down to our bed where I have treats and toys to intice them. Best of all, they don't scream that blood curling scream as if they were being attacked when I pick them up to put them back in their cages. It always takes several minutes of herding them onto my hand and cupping above their backs to deter flying off before I get them back in their cages without having to towel them, but they aren't screaming about it anymore. (their wings are clipped but they can still flutter across the room)

So my goal for this year is to get each of them stepping up on my hand.

My other goal is to get our conure Franklin to accept and wear his flight suit. The little bugger absolutely LOVES to go bye bye with me, but now that he's learned to fly, I won't take him out until he wears his flight suit.

I just want to tell him, "Put your flight suit on and we'll go bye bye" and have him jump right in it. :D Yeah...that's my ULTIMATE 2012 Bird Goal!

What's yours??

The ultimate goal for me would be for the birds to be out of their cages all day and not having to worry about the cat interacting with them. It probably won't happen though. This is a bold, predatory cat who wants to play with these birds like they are other cats or cat toys. Obviously we can't have that happen. Both of them would be in danger from each other. The cat could kill a bird in any number of ways including from a scratch and the birds could rip off her nose or toes. But, I love them all, so kitty has to take afternoon nap time in my bedroom for the birds to be out.

To get Pearl and my dog to be better friends and for Pearl to get a word out.Shes trying and is so close.

#1 Goal: Potty Training!

#2 Goal: Learning rhat mommy does not have to be in sight at every moment of the day. If he's out, he will fly (well glide really) to try and find me. Usually finding the dogs instead. Silly bird.

I would like Ben (Great Dane X) to be comfortable with Max... We're working on it, but Ben is crossed with a Ridgeback, and find it hard just to let Max fly...

Max now knows about Ben, and will tease him by flying so close, that Ben cannot help himself...

Mine is to get the rest of my birds from my mum's house, finish taming Dara and Bullrush (the rosies), tame Marley (the broken winged wild tiel), finish taming Chiku (the Fischer's lovebird). Get some more toys for the lot of them for the rotation, and breed my pair of ringnecks. And finally get all these creatures onto a proper diet! I have acquired them all from rescues or people who have given them to me because they don't know what they are doing so I'm trying to wean them all onto a proper balanced diet of pellets, fruit, vege, and all those other healthy things with only some seed not all seed. Grr it's hard. Got my work cut out for me but I know I can do it! Thats my resolution.
