This morning on my shoulder before I left for work, Bo kept making this strange motion that at first I thought was a warning that he might bite, but he never actually bit or showed other signs of aggression or irritation. He intermittently stretched his neck out and opened his beak as wide as it would go, before bowing again for me to nuzzle him. Do birds actually yawn, or is it something else? He's been tired before and it's been hot and humid before without him doing this. Could it be something stuck in his throat or him feeling breathless for some reason?

Birds do yawn just like we do, but from the way you describe it, it sounds more like he was adjusting his crop. As long as it's not a constant thing he's doing and only an occasional behavior, it is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

Thanks, I've looked up videos of birds adjusting their crop and it looks exactly like what he was doing. I'm very short-sighted so I guess I've never been close enough at the right time to see it before.
