Alexandrine
Hi my name is Kira,

I have an Alexandine he is about 4 and a half months old. My partner and I bought him when he was 2 weeks and 1 day old and hand reared him myself. We went to a breeders house looking to buy a green cheek conure and we saw other people there buying an Alex who was already weaned and I said how bad I wanted one then the breeder said "that's the last weaned one I have but I have one pulled from the nest yesterday". I held him and I fell in love!!! I really didn't have any idea on how to hand rear a bird but I believe I have bonded really well with him because of that. He was fully weaned by 5 weeks and he also started getting the black part of the ring at 5 weeks also. About a month ago he started mimicking kissing sounds i made to him but he has only made the noises about 4 or 5 times that I know of. I'm hoping he will talk eventually.

I had budgies as a kid and a galah up until I was about 15 then we had to give him away as we couldn't keep him anymore :31: he was a great talker, very aggressive though and was scared to go near him.

If anyone has any advice on Alexandrines I would love to take any advice I can get also share your stories with me!! :)

Sometimes when you hand rear the bird yourself, they don't bond with you as well since they see you as their mother and wants to look for someone else. I've had that happen many times, only a few stayed with me. And it's the best bond ever, nothing is like it when you hand rear them yourself!!!! Since your his handler, you pretty much can do anything with him. It's like watching a child grow, but super fast as they go into fledgling pretty quickly....Then you have to teach them to step up so fourth so on....It's precious!! Post some pics of him! :)

Hey, thanks for your reply. I think he does see me as his mother and he is pretty protective of me lol. He hasn't really bonded with anyone else. I take him for visits to see my parents and he always comes looking for me or if i I'm in the same room he will just climb on to me straight away, it's very cute!! He's pretty naughty at home he will play up trying to get out of his cage and throw things around but with my parents he's a little angel for them. So no too sure if that behaviour is a result of him seeing me as mum or not lol.
