Parrots
Senegal, Maximillian Pionus, 2 Cockatiels, Ruppell's
Hello. I am new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jenny. I am the dedicated slave of four (soon to be five) awesome parrots. I have two cockatiels, a Senegal, and a Maximillian Pionus.

And, my new little Ruppell's baby has hatched and will be joining my flock once she is weaned!

I look forward to meeting fellow bird people who get it and actually want to have conversations about birds. ;)

First of all, welcome!

WOW! I WAS going to keep it under wraps for a while... But I might as well say, as I am bursting over here and cannot keep it a secret since you mentioned it...... :)

CONGRATS!!! I am ALSO GETTING A RUPPELL'S!!! :D

Mine is either still in an egg or just hatched (around right now) I'm waiting to hear. I'm getting a male. His name will be Griffin. What about you?

Thank you for the welcome and sorry to spoil your surprise :)

If you don't mind me asking, where are you getting your baby from? I am getting mine from Aves. I talked to Gail today and apparently there are lots of babies hatched, she just hadn't had time to tell me!

I am getting a little girl, gotta love the blue rump! I have a name in mind but don't want to share it yet until I actually get to know her a little more.

Congrats!!

No worries about the surprise!
AVES INT'L also... I knew it!!! When you implied they just hatched I knew it was you :) the one other person who "ordered" a handfed Ruppell's, but a female.
I've been busy too, and now I have to call her to get details on my little boy :) Do you know about when they hatched?

I have ALWAYS been into the 'rare' species and have had a few rarer birds in the past.

You notice that we also both have another Poi, and a Pionus? :)

I didn't ask many questions, she is feeding ALL the babies herself. She said they haven't been pulled for feeding yet.

I did notice we both have a poi and pi! And that you have all boys and I have all girls!

It will be so nice to share our baby experience. We may even have siblings!

Gail told me last time that three pairs (with Steve Garvin) were on eggs about a month ago, so must have hatched only in the last couple or few days. With three pairs, that's a lot of babies, so I wonder if we'll have siblings or not? We might be able to tell from the band number. Then again if she's not pulling all of them for hand feeding Gail might be able to tell us if they were pulled from the same clutch or not.

Gail told me she only hand feeds the ones that were "ordered" as pets. Otherwise as most rare species are, the rest are for propagation and breeding purposes.

Siblings or not, it is so exciting! I am glad our babies will be specially hand fed and loved. :)

I'm VERY excited too :D
I also love that Gail runs a closed aviary to prevent disease transmission which is so important with birds.

I'll have to buy a cage for him though. I only have a giant one with one inch bar spacing empty. Robin my Red Bellied has had his same old cage for 19 years now, and he really needs a new one, so I want to buy both Poi's the same size cage, and maybe even identical ones.

What made you decide on a Ruppell's? For me it was the fact that I'm both hooked on Poicephalus, and hooked on rare species, so it just made sense ;)

Hello and welcome! i have to say I had to look up a Ruppell's, and wow, they are gorgeous! congrats to you both!

Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to getting to know everyone. Your birds are gorgeous!

For me the decision was based on my love of my Sennie. I have an amazing bond with her. And I just think the Ruppell's are so beautiful.

I love my Sennie's cage so I just got another one like hers so they will have the same cage.

Thank you:)
I can't wait to see the new babies when you all get them! What a small world, huh?
This is a great place, I am so glad you found us!

For one moment, I thought I am alone...Haha...Wow! I just learned about another magnificent breed of parrots. Can't wait to see them growing up!

Welcome and you came to the right place. I'm new here, too. I never had kids, only fids and I try not to go on about my fids to people with kids. But here it is EXPECTED of you!

Welcome!!

I also had to look them up, saw the pic and thought, looks like a sennie family relative!!!

Very cool looking guys, congrats to both of you! Look forward to hearing updates on how your babies are progressing.
