Parrots
Quaker,Blue and Gold Macaw
Hi Everyone.I'm Sue. I have a Quaker Parrot .His name is Ernie. He is King! So he thinks.I have had him/her for almost a year now and love him so much.He talks and sings alot.He is not a screamer and a very good bird. he is my 1st bird.I am now looking to add another member to the family. This weekend I am going to meet a blue and gold macaw..Im a little nervous..Looking forward to meeting other bird owners :green2: :)

Good luck, hope the Macaw is a nice bird and welcome to this forum

Hello and welcome to the forum! I would definitely do as much research as you can on the larger parrots before deciding to bring one home. I too wanted a macaw, but after I read about them I decided it may not be for me. They can be very testy and loud! One the other hand though they can be very sweet. I definitely would not try to turn anyone away from larger parrots, however I ended up taking on a lot more then I anticipated when I got my Too as I didn't read enough about them. Good luck with your search! There are so many wonderful and knowledgeable people here and all are so willing to help!

Thank you Oled and Lacey..I too hope he is a nice bird.I am going to meet him this Saturday.He/She (not sure) is 5 years old and very friendly. From what i understand he is in his 2nd home. His 1st home had a 8 year old child and pets, and they had no problems. The person who has him now says he is very friendly,in excellent feather and loves his toys.Seems to like the wife better than him. Goes to bed at 8:30 and tells them in the morning when he wants to wake up.Quite talkative when they get home in the evening.and a big joy to be around.Friendly with guest.
I have been reading lots about them and several other birds for the last year, and understand the huge commitment they take.Have read up on the damage they can do,but also how sweet they can be.I have been to the bird shop and handled the macaw they have there a couple times and watched closely how the lady handled him.I will be going there again tomorrow with a big attitude of confidence and questions. When I do finely meet the bird on saturday and have any uneasy feelings i will pass him up.I have my name in for the next hatching of yellow or double yellow naped parrot, which i would get this coming may or june when they will be ready.if for some reason i do pass on the macaw ,i will wait till that day.
I welcome any advice on bringing a new bird home.especially one that is already bonded with their owners..

posted a couple pics of ErnieBird.Quakers are so much fun.So excited to meet the macaw. Her name is Corona.I have had a few more emails from the currant owners and sounds like a very nice Macaw..I have been reading so much, from horror stories ,to very good stories, and training ,and handling, and behavior..I cant sleep!!!!! I will have to pay extra attention to Ernie so he dont become jealous.I work nights and hubby works days. The schedule of the Macaw is he goes to bed at 8:30 PM and hubby will have to keep him covered and he will want to wake up around 9:00 or 10.Which will work for me as thats the time i get up.Then i feed Her, and she will have play time till i get reay for work around noon,at the same time paying attention to Ernie. Then right before I leave for work I give her a treat and leave and hope she dont notice.owners say if you give her a treat before you leave she will be good with that and not scream..Hubby will be home around 5:00 and he will have to take over evening duty as for feeding and attention till she goes to bed at 8:30..i so hope he can deal with that...My life is about to change,,that I know :)

Today Carona came to her new home. She is great and transition went very smooth..She is going to be a great friend...

I don't mean to be nosey, but where do you live? The reason I ask is that the rescue by me had a B&G named Corona, and I wondered if you happened to adopt that bird.

Welcome to to forum ~~ and looking forward to meet you new member ^^
