- I belong to and quite active in various forums; the scale modeling variety as I'm quite into super detailing model cars (off topic, but there's a point). I have been 'lurking' and reading now at least a hundred threads here and don't feel qualified in the least to say so much as 'Boo'. Being one rarely without words and being very accustomed to my own world of forums, I was immediately reminded of the stark differences. In my scale model forums (scale auto mag, model car mag, eScale, etc..) we are all about learning new ways of replicating (not modeling) the smallest of details present in an inanimate object that does not answer to natural law like we and our feathered friends are. It all about skill, art, invention, and of course showing off the results of said. The forum is all about being a master not at what can be changed, but being attuned to the natural needs and sometimes subtle or grand communication of some amazing creatures. Here I am finding that sage experience wins the day, not the greatest new idea, or best new tool. I feel blessed to be learning from many of you, so please don't mind if I lurk and occasionally 'like' a post. I'll try to be sparing to that extent to thanks is where thanks is most due. I will probably ask more questions than help initially and will try to ensure that I search the forum first before posting a question. (I believe that very mind numbing pet peeve is probably the main sore spot with any active forum member.... That some one will come along and dang near post the same question that's been answered 100's of times and has threads to threads; all could have been avoided and actually maybe enriched the existing thread if just the member had read and replied there at the 'root') But hey, don't ever hate too much or at least explain yourself to those that are asking for help.... After all I'd much rather help those who seek to help themselves grow than continue giving in kind or mentally to those who wait for hand out as so many do in real life here in the states. So glad when someone asks a question before they go and waste money ruining something or buying something they couldn't begin to get the same result with. In my line of business as a Marine Corps Officer just as with this forum, many times lives hang in the balance of our reactions/actions. I love the knowledge I'm learning on how we can enrich the lives of our feathered family.
- Ok, melodramatic tirade is over, now the boring stuff. My wife and I have two beautiful birds. A one year old dusky conure named 'Oliver' (goofy and tries to be bossy, but is secretly trying to woo my wife away from me for himself) and 'Gus-Gus' (yes, like the mouse from Cinderella), a 4 month old indian ringneck (still sweet and cuddly, though hopefully we're being good enough parents that he/she will remain sweet after the cuddle has grown out). We have three daughters (19, 15, & 6; yeah don't tell me about the age difference...I know), we're stationed in NYC / Long Island and we've been moving non-stop for 21 years while I have been serving our Corps and her Marines.
Thanks for reading and let me know if there's anything I can do for you -Shannon
