[Ringneck12]

Hi I have a ring neck not sure on sex or age but I picked him from a family member who was starting to hand raise him he was weaned off food so still young. Not sure what age they are weaned off food. He is a beautiful blue, when we got him we was coming to us and sitting with us but the last 2 weeks he doesn’t want to sit with us he flys back over to cage and when we go to get him out he lunges at me and my kids but doesn’t bite hard.
This morning he was trying to squeeze out of the cage between the bars, I’m scared he will hurt himself.

In my opinion, any of the vets listed here should be better than a regular vet.

What's the diet? That's critical for health. Too many are kept on seeds or other poor-nutrition things. They need veggies, legumes, grains... pellets are a good staple. Here's what I use.

I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff, like fruits and vegetables! My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day. I also like Harrison's via mail because I never have to worry about out-of-date products.

Since you're a new parront, I'll just drop a note about avoiding teflon pans, which are lethal to birds if even slightly overheated.

Beautiful birdie! Welcome to forum
Its so easy to cause fear of hsnds in burds especially IRN. So hand feeding trests multiple times a day helps, learning to read their body language, talk and explain stuff, try to use same phrases, create routines. Read up in target training, watch you tube videos on this. Bird tricks you tube has lots of grest videos. Im going to link some good articles . Also o will find and link Silver Sage Avairy, she is an awesome breeder, and has great article on her web page. You have to spend a lot if time with IRN , or they will lose their tamness, they also tend to be fearful of fingers, so folded fingers can be better

Welcome and be welcomed. As has been pointed out already, Ringnecks have an almost universal fear of fingers and hands so work especially hard on this. They take an almost constant re-enforcing of taming with treats to maintain their tameness. Also, if your ringneck is almost squeezing thru the bars of his cage, the bar spacing is too wide for him. A 1/2" or 5/8" bar spacing will prevent that. THey need a big cage, but not big bar spacing.
