Jasper (6yr old Solomon Island Eclectus Parrot)
Hi guys,

Today when I was in the kitchen making dinner Jasper got all excited and flew over. He had a normal landing considering he's clipped. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I was just playing with him by his cage and spotted this lying at the bottom of his cage:

I grabbed it immediately. I touched the end, the little blood spec was dry:

I tried checking him as best as I could but he really doesn't like me poking around his tail area. I can't spot where it came out.

I don't spot any blood on him anywhere, or at the bottom of the cage.

He's playing, singing, and acting fine.

Do you think it's ok? I have no idea how this broke, but I've read about broken blood feathers. No vets open today b/c it's Sunday.

I will try examining him again in a few minutes.

Another update in case anyone ever is searching b/c of a similar problem.

I emailed these photos to my vet and she said it looks like he pulled it off right at the follicle and not to worry, that it will grow back eventually.

Peppa pulled hers out the other day when she just had her shower. She was pruning herself and when I went to pick her up, I saw it laying in the hand basin. I was not impressed and told her also LOL!! She has another small feather growing through on the other side and I'm watching her like a hawk.
