Hi, Today i went and picked out a baby sun conure its a female.
when i was there i noticed alot of them were very hyper and loved to be on there backs. The one i picked out didn seem as hyper and didn mind but flipped her self back up off her back, are the males more hyper then the females?

I think it really depends on the individual bird. Congrats on your new baby!

it is very dependant on the bird itself, most can be taught to lay on thier backs, but some just naturally do it more than others.

My sun conure is about a year and a half and he is very anti social, he is tame and is loveing and he let's me rub his head, but for the most part when I try and play with him or touch him he flys away and dosnt like to be touched. It really bothers me as I want a companion but I feel that I spend so much on food, toys etc and I get nothing in return. Now I'm just scared this new one will turn out the same way. That is why I'm concerned.

Rowdy doesn't like to be touched most of the time, and I just let her be who she is. She does like to run all over me, play on her play gym, plot to get my car keys, and fly. She loves to give kisses. But, it's a rare thing that she will let me rub her head or touch her. What can I say? She's just not the touchy feely type. Sometimes she will rub her face against mine or my neck. She will climb inside my shirt. Some birds just aren't cuddly, but they still want to be with you as long as you don't pet them.

That right there is chi chi, he"ll rub my face, give me kiss but when it comes to touching, no way. I thought maybe I did something wrong when I raised him but I guess I'm not the only one.

Its funnt because i brought chichi home when he was three weeks old and he was so tiny and now im bringing her home and shes so big. Im glad though because it was so stressfull when he was so tiny, i was always secound guessing my self. Is she a sun or a jenday ?

Those are Jendays, aren't they? I thought Suns were mostly yellow and orange and Jendays were green with yellow heads. Then again, I know next to nothing about birds. lol

Jenandys have all green wings but you'll see the little yellow spot on there sholders thats how you can tell there suns

I have trouble telling apart juvenile Suns and Jendays myself. Juvenile Suns have a lot more green on them than adult ones do so they do look a lot like Jendays.

Erik, Chi Chi just might not be touchy feely either. A lot of birds aren't. I doubt you did anything wrong if he likes you. Would Rowdy have been different if I had gotten her when she was 3 months old instead of 8 months old? I don't know! I suspect not though. I still love her dearly though. We have fun together all day.

I picked up my sun conure today and broght her home. She is down to two feeds a day. They told me in the store for the first three weeks not to take her out that much, they said three times a day 20-30 mins to get her used to the cage. but will she still bond with me if i do that? and when she is with me she always wants to climb up on my sholder, should i allow it or keep her low?
Erik

Oh, I think you should take her out as much as you want to. However, you want to keep training sessions short, like 10 minutes at a time. So don't spend an hour working on step up. Birds get bored fast, and conures especially. They like a lot of variety in their activities.

Aww , so cute :)

Wow what a beauty. I love the bright orange coloring around the eyes. I think you should let that baby out of the cage as much as you want as long as she is receptive to it. Thats what I did with my sun and he is very loving and social, even with strangers. I think if your bird gets overwhelmed, you will know it. Play with her and snuggle her up. Congrats!
