Hi everyone. i just got a sun conure last night and needed a little advice. I'm not sure if i should be leaving Kiwi alone to adjust or handle him/her...any advice????

Welcome! I'd let her adjust to her surroundings a little bit. You would probably get more replies and help if you made a post in the conure section and told us about Kiwi's setup. The conure owners could give you much advice!:) Welcome again.

Yes, and more background information on your Conure would be helpful as well as your experience with birds. But I would leave the bird alone for the first 24 hours and let it settle in. Then I would spend time around it's cage, reading to him, singing and just talking. This lets the bird get used to you and your sounds or voice. Then open his door to his cage and see if he wants to come out and play. I wouldn't force him to come out of his cage. He should be left to do this on his own when he's ready. You can also try giving him treats by your hand and see if he takes them. Just remember slowly and baby steps. People often move too quickly around birds, which startles them and causes the bird to bite.

i'm sorry...i was so excited to get on here i left everything out!! lol kiwi is 6 months old and was purchased at petsmart...i have owned parakeets for the last 13 yrs...had an african grey and a cockatiel...my husband and i are avid animal lovers and couldn't resist this sun conure....she/he ran over to me at (at the store)and through the cage wanted to step up on my hand...we have no trouble getting kiwi out of the cage..in fact kiwi runs to get out and climb on us as soon as we open the door...we are finding now that when we hold her she bites us...at first it seems more like tounging but the more we try to correct it the harder she bites...i'm a little perplexed by this because i would've thought being so young, she'd be more loving and not snippy...i'm hoping someone can give me some insight and maybe there is something i should or shouldn't be doing...thanks
