We picked up our new baby Sunday, it is about 14 weeks and just have a couple of concerns maybe you can answer; Firstly his feet still don't seem to have full function, he will climb and grip ok and is perching but the feet are still closed when walking and sometimes when he is on the perch, do you happen to know how long it is before they have full function? The other concern is how potentially noisy he can be, we got a sun conure which I know are one of the loudest, we are going with not acknowledging him when he squawks loudly and positive re-enforcement the rest of the time, Is there anything you can think of that would help aswel?

any and all advice is greatly welcomed

Jo

Well: :)

Yes, I know, 'if you don't have anything to say,....'
I hope his feet aren't an issue!

Hmm, had a stupid image attached. Maybe my work's firewall is smarter than me!

Congrats! I have a Sunday. You might want to get his feet checked out by your vet, he should have a well visit anyway just to make sure that everything is A-ok with him.

Noise! I also have a Jenday which is also very loud, when those two get going in unison it can be ear splitting. Mainly it will be when you come home from being out of the house and when he wants attention which will be often. Provide plenty of toys but don't be surprised if he'd rather be with you then play with toys. Neither of mine are really fond of toys. The best toys for them I've found are interactive, musical or talking toys.

Do you have any photos of your baby to share?

Also, ignore the screaming and only pay attention when quiet, easier said than done I do know that!

Thank you, will look at uploading a couple of photos when I get home from work, he is a cutie and very affectionate.
The breeder we got him from says the feet will come ok he's only a a baby and these things take time, I will be taking him to a vet first chance I get.

I took him to the vet the other day, he has begun treatment to correct his feet by having them bandaged. Has any one got experience with this treatment?

Also how do I upload photos on here??

Flboy, very funny..LOL..I use my custom earplugs when I know I cant leave the room. It sure does help.

Make sure you start now on teaching him how to use foraging toys and foot toys, and how to play and entertain himself in the cage.

Teach him quiet vocalizations he can do to get your attention.

Use certain environmental cues when you initiate quiet time (such as playing soft music, pulling half the curtain so it's a *bit* less bright).
