New rescues.

I would recommend buying some vitamin drops for their water since they are so unhealthy, and just use the vitamin drops until they are healthier.

Since parrots hardly drink (a lot of water) putting stuf in their water is just polluting it- they will never get enough in their systems that way to be benificial to them.

The vet actually suggested homemade cantaloupe and blueberry juice as long as I don't add sugar and as long as I only offer it while he is sick. Dr. Kirk said the juice is better than no food. Cantaloupe is high in vitamin A and blueberry is a super food. I have been spoon feeding both Max and Hannah warm quinoa and brown rice with a little cantaloupe juice. Thank you for your advice! I appreciate any and all. I just want the babies healthy and happy.

I guess I shouldn't say food processor it is a blender that blends the fruit nicely. 😊

As far as vitamin drops I did try drops that I had for my parakeets and Max and Hannah wouldn't touch it. The vet suggested giving Max a "loading" dose of vitamins with a does of oral pain meds. So we put a couple of drops in his oral pain meds and diluted it with chamomile tea, organic chamomile tea. Chamomile has soothing properties as well as some natural pain relief. I ordered some organic chamomile flowers which I sprinkle on their food and use to make a tea for them. Max and Hannah LOVE the tea! The make yummy noises when they drink it.

LoriS53,
Thank you for informing me about juices, and vet recommended! Good to learn new stuff!!! There is no doubt Max would have died if you hadn't rescued him when you did!! It sound like he has got the best vet, and momma to get him well!! It will be a joy to hear about him as he improves and starts being a rooster like the famous Salty Amazon!!

Don't forget the fresh red chili peppers, I think they have the highest amount of natural bit A of any food to give parrots, and seem to be a highly desirable food as all my parrots loved it the first time I offered. ;)

You are an angel and will be rewarded. They will most likely be alright. Your vet sounds good. I took a Yellow Nape in when I was in my 20s from a co-worker. She was very sick with a sinus infection. The vet gave her a 50/50 chance of survival. We gave her antibiotics and that high calorie syrup from a tube...looked like molasses. She was never cuddly, but let me trim her toenails and was a huge entertainer. Her vocabulary was amazing. She was rehomed to my sister when we moved to a senior living apartment. We’re back in a single family home, but my sister won’t give her back. She’s at least 45 years old now and shows no signs of old age.

Hi we haven't heard from you in awhile! How are the rescues? Did the make recover????? Love to hear an update!

You can do this! Someone has to!

It will be hard, so, thank you (ahead of time).
Just remember, worst case scenario, they are out of that hell-hole they once inhabited.

This is the first time I have seen this thread.
Thanks for taking in these 2 birds that so desperately needed care.

Oh my thank you for what you’re doing I’ll keep looking for an update.

I am so sorry it has been so long since I posted last. Max is doing awesome. He finished his antibiotics and is feeling much better. We were able to get them into a MUCH bigger cage. Someone was kind enough to donate a huge cage for Max and Hannah. We are working with them everyday. As we expected it is 3 steps forward and 2 steps back. Max will eat out of my hand. Hannah will let me spoon feed her. They are so emotionally damaged we have to take things very slow. They are healthy though which makes me so so happy. They are loving their new cage. We have taken then outside in the sun in a travel cage and they love the sun. W have started a Facebook page. Lorna Dee's Memorial Bird Sanctuary.

Thank you thank you for the update!!!! I hate where we left off and Mac was doing poorly. So good to hear this good news!!! The sun and being outside bis powerful stuff!

I am so sorry. My days were so full with trying to help Max and trying to spend time with all my other feather babies. Before I knew it the days were over and I was exhausted. I would always promise myself I would pop in but it just didn't happen. I love you all for being so concerned and sticking with us.😊

Don't be sorry: birds (and their health) first -- the storytelling can wait (a bit anyway ;) )
So glad to hear both of them are doing great.
