Just bought a new red rumped girl, I think im gonna call her "Bella". she is so far very gentle and delicate. Her planned mate would just really try to kill her every time he seen her. so they had to be seperated.
she has lived for a year in a cage that can only be described as a finch travel cage, on a top shelf in a local petstore.
The store is not the best in the area tho the care of the animals has improved dramatically since new owners took over.
still my wife and I have a strict "no buy" policy for the animals at this store and I am in deep trouble when she gets off work.lol
It was just one of those things where from the second I noticed her up on her shelf all she did was try to get my attention and when the clerk got her out of the cage she immediately flew to my shoulder and was like "get me out of here!"
Anyway Bella has a cockatiel size cage, I think 40ish by 30ish by 30ish.
internet research says canary food and millet. tho right now I have the same stuff the store was feeding her.
the cage bars are square tubes and dont allow the addition of normal birdbaths so I will try to offer daily baths outside the cage.
Does anyone know of any special care this species needs other than what I have so far?
