Just bought a new red rumped girl, I think im gonna call her "Bella". she is so far very gentle and delicate. Her planned mate would just really try to kill her every time he seen her. so they had to be seperated.
she has lived for a year in a cage that can only be described as a finch travel cage, on a top shelf in a local petstore.
The store is not the best in the area tho the care of the animals has improved dramatically since new owners took over.
still my wife and I have a strict "no buy" policy for the animals at this store and I am in deep trouble when she gets off work.lol
It was just one of those things where from the second I noticed her up on her shelf all she did was try to get my attention and when the clerk got her out of the cage she immediately flew to my shoulder and was like "get me out of here!"

Anyway Bella has a cockatiel size cage, I think 40ish by 30ish by 30ish.
internet research says canary food and millet. tho right now I have the same stuff the store was feeding her.
the cage bars are square tubes and dont allow the addition of normal birdbaths so I will try to offer daily baths outside the cage.
Does anyone know of any special care this species needs other than what I have so far?

Well it looks like we are gonna be good friends she jumped off my shoulder to explore the table and chirping softly.
so I figurd while she explored i would straighten up the room a little, but bella wasnt having it.... as soon as I walked past the table she jumped on my back and climbed up to my shoulder.
so shes already brave enough to look around but only if im right there. not bad considering we have known each other less than an hour.lol

not a species I know anything about but welcome to the forum and congrats onyour new best freind sounds like you picked each other when you tell your wife the story i am sure she will be so proud of you for rescuing him Alison and sweetie pie:D

wow i have never seen a bird like this before, she does not bite even in self defense.
she is not afraid of anything (except garbage bags. shes pretty sure they were sent by the devil) but will actually take anything we hand to her. food toys whatever. she flew to my wife the first time she met her last night.
I have known maybe a dozen birds in my life and they were all scared of new things at first.
shes 18 months old, known us less than 24 hours and has acted like we hand raised her ourselves from the very beginning.
I feel like im being setup. shes gonna kill us in our sleep one night or something. lol
