Hello all,

This is Kevin and Lori we are new to the forum and are excited to talk to all our bird friends out there! We have 2 daughters age 7 and 8 that actually got us into the bird world about a year ago and we absolutely love it! We have 3 cockatiels, 6 parakeets, and 1 lovebird. We definitely have the bird bug! We are currently looking to adopt Yellow naped amazon that we have been working with at a local rescue, he is 30yrs old and was born with a bad foot but gets around great. Read that they might not be the best with children but we all have been around him with his cage open and giving him treats and he seems good a little snippy sometimes but i think he's been coming along great. He has even let me scratch his head. I served 26yrs in the military and my wife said it would be my service bird! Lol. I just want one that would be good with the whole family. We also thought about a blue and gold.

Welcome to you and your family! Thank you for your service to our country, Kevin!

It sounds like you have a sweet flock, cockatiels, budgies and lovebirds may have small bodies but most have huge personalities. It's great that your whole family is involved with the flock.

I've never had a macaw but the Amazon you've befriended sounds like a wonderful character. It's very rewarding to offer a loving home to an older bird who needs and deserves another chance. Amazons are incredible, they can be nippy at times but that's true of most parrots, they're smart, funny, inquisitive and friendly. Best of luck with your decision.

Welcome. In the Amazon forum there are sticky threads in light blue at the top. They are excellent reads for Amazon. We have very active Amazon members here so when they see this they will have lots to add.

Welcome Kevin and Lori, thanks for joining! Your daughters seem bird-savvy, so the choice of a mature rescue YNA may be reasonable. Birds often "choose" their people, so frequent visitation and handling before deciding is advisable.

Thanks for your military service!
