Hello!
I am a bird lover since ever, and actually a bird owner since 4 years ago. I started "light", with cockatiels, which I find extremely cute and comforting, especially after undergoing a patient taming process. Unfortunately, I have been deeply scarred by the loss of some of my former birds, due to the lack of care they get since being born. I must mention that here in Romania bird care is not taken seriously, and lot of cockatiels from pet shops have been mistreated, both physically and emotionally, and tend to develop a lot of otherwise predictable diseases.
Two weeks ago I have adopted an Amazon parrot. This Amazon parrot is supposed to have about 5 years old, and went from foster home to foster home since he/she (not really sure) was born. Nobody ever talked to him or has ever given him any toys. He has been living a life of boredom and lacked proper food and care. I am now trying to build the trust bond with him, which will take a while, with the help of my cockatiel, who is jealous, but very helpful.
What else? We will just find out as we go along!

I am new to this forum my name is Nicky Cunningham, I live in Ashford in Kent in the UK. I bought an African Grey Parrot yesterday it's only 13 weeks.

I am searching the web for any advice for my baby. Any tips are welcome.

I have noticed he has little naps all the time and it seem normal!

Browse around, many links pertaining to AG.
Many guardians with AG, me included who will be more than willing to assist you wherever possible.
It's absolutely normal for a little bird to take naps, just as our human babies do.

Hi I am Quincy's mom. I am owned by Quincy (Quaker Parrot) and Miss D. Meanor (Cockatiel) lol.

I was chosen by Quincy when he was just an egg hehe. He had no feathers at all when he picked me at the pet store and the last 3 years have been awesome. He stole my heart the very first day I saw him.

He has quite the list of words for a three year old. Right now his favorite phrase is "What's a pig say?" followed by Oink Oink Oink. Really starting to wish we hadn't learned that one lol. He is working on Turkey now

MissD is my 2 year old Teil who just this morning was so proud because she laid me another egg. This will be her 2nd clutch. We are trying to figure out what is triggering this so any advice would be great. I moved her cage around Thanksgiving to her winter spot, don't know if that could be it or not.

Anyway, I am so excited to have found you guys!!

Hello! Anne here. Very nice to meet you all. I'm the proud co-habitator of a soon to be expanding flock. (well, after reading here, mini-flock) I currently have a Greater Jardine and an African Grey Congo. Both males. I am excitedly awaiting the home coming of my baby Blue & Gold of which I was CERTAIN was a female at last...Suprise! It's a BOY! lol. I guess that's my lot in life, to be surrounded by beautiful males...wait...that is NOT bad at all! I've been enjoying myself on the forum and thought it was time to register. Looking forward to being an active member. (translation: I can't wait to pick your minds for all the info I can!)

Hello! Last year I discovered the incredible world of feathered friends. I started out with a budgie... then I found an ad on craigslist by some people who had to get rid of their budgies, and a friend needed to get rid of her budgies, and I ended up with six! Then I met this sweet quaker parakeet I had to get, I rescued a scared and abused sun conure from a horrible home, my boyfriend inherited an Indian ringneck, and then we fell in love with this sweet Alexandrine. I rehomed my budgies to my sisters whose kids really wanted a first pet, and I thought budgies were a perfect match. My mom fell in love with and took custody of Frodo, my quaker, and Draco and Izzy (the sun and ringneck) were adopted by a friend of the family who was laid off and needed some buddies to keep her company during the day. That leaves me with Gandalf, my adorable clumsy Alexandrine!

I joined this forum today because I noticed Gandalf is still showing fluffy white feathers around his wings. I got him when he was about four months old, and now he is about a year old. I attributed his fluffy feathers to his young age, but is it normal to still have baby downy feathers at a year old? He eats 80% zupreem pellets and the rest is nuts, fruits, a few veggies and seeds, so I don't think it could be a diet issue. Am I just expecting him to grow up too fast? Is it normal to keep fluffy downy feathers this long? I just see videos of other Alexandrines and I get jealous of their beautiful, smooth, solid coats of radiant feathers. Thanks for any input, and I look forward to meeting some of you guys in the forum =)

Do you notice him plucking out any feathers? I do not know much about Alexandrines but I know that most birds do not show their down feathers anymore after about a month or two. I got my sun conure at 10 weeks old and he didn't have any fluffy down showing. The only thing I can think of is that Gandalf either used to pluck or still does pluck his feathers which is a sign of stress.

Hi Erin, He has absolutely no problem with plucking his feathers. In fact, I have to be the meany and pull out a broken feather every now and then. He gets tons of interaction so I'm positive its not stress. I'll try to take some photos tomorrow. Its like, on the "shoulder" part of his wings, in between his green normal feathers you can see whispy white downy feathers poking out, almost like he just never got around to removing his baby feathers.

Hi all, I am mom to two FIDS - 1 African Grey Timneh (6 years old) and one male Eclectus (3 years). They have never gotten along well as they were intruduced to each other poorly.
They had formed an understanding until about two/three days ago and then I noticed that my Jack (my eclectus) plucked the back of his neck bare. Today, even though he was out of his cage most of the day he plucked most of the front bare.
any suggestions wouldbe greatly appreciated.
No one in the home had been near a pet store and he had plenty of new to him toys.
Please help!
