"Crackers" Hahns Macaw
Hi everyone. :D

My name is Denise and I am owned by a 1 year old Hahns Macaw named “Crackers.” Soon, I will be owned by a Senegal and possibly a Pionus.

Growing up, I have been owned by cockatiels, a Senegal, a blue front Amazon, a double yellow-headed Amazon and a Mexican red-head Amazon. Out of the parrots that have come into my life, I have to say I love the Hahns macaw and the Senegal the best. While I love all birds, I tend to be attracted to small parrots. :green2:

Aside from birds, I have 3 miniature pinschers, two tarantulas, a pixie frog and several ball python morphs. My husband has a small scorpion collection as well.

I am excited to be here and I look forward to conversing with you all!:)

Hi! Welcome to the forums! Quite a collection of pets you have there. I don't think I could do tarantulas, snakes, or scorpions... LOL I give you props there! All animals are God's creation though and are here for a purpose whether we like them or not. :) Well, there is an amazing set of people on here. I do have to say that it's the best bird forum that I have found within the past 3 yrs.!!!! Look forward to the wonderful stories you must have to share about crackers! Take Care!

Thanks for the warm welcome!:)

LOL, yes people think we are weird but they are intriguing pets! I use to have 500 tarantulas at one point. Some were babies. I have downsized to only two and I have about 15 Ball pythons. Fun stuff!

Funny that you mention about this being the best bird forum. I have been on alot of forums (mostly horses and reptiles) and from reading most of the posts here, I have to agree with you. Everyone seems polite even if they disagree. That is hard to find these days. Reptile and invert forms seem to bring drama all the time no matter what. And people are not polite about dissagreements. I actually own a reptile society and I have to say, I would rather be with bird people! LOL

BTW, I love your adorable lovebird! Beautiful colors! :blue1:

Welcome! Even though I am new myself. I also have a Hahns Macaw. She is 3 1/2 years old.

I actually like snakes but there is no way I would ever own a tarantula. -shivers- I can't even look at any type of spider in a book. Creeps me out. I remember walking into a horse stall and looking up at all the webs and spiders. I got out of there as quick as I could. lol. I was also in a stall once and looked up to find a snake on the top beam though I am not really scared by snakes. Then again, I knew it was a black racer.

Snakes I find interesting. I have come across many rattlesnakes but show me a spider, even if not venomous, and I will flip.

lmao show nut a spider and she would think *hummm new play thing :) she's never killed one, just chases it down an holds it in her beak?? my greatest fear is she'll drop a live one on me!!!

welcome to the forum!

LOL, yes most people do not like spiders. :) My girl is wonderful though.

Your Hahns is beautiful. Aren't they just great? We definitely have to share Hahns stories. :green2:

LOL, I can just picture your sennie going after a spider. My tarantula would just sit there so maybe it wouldnt be as much fun. LOL

Thank you for the welcome. I love your sennie. They are one of my favorites!

I remember catching my friend scoping up a spider into the palm of her hand at the barn once. That was about the only person I met that actually liked spiders. lol.

Hahns are defiantly great birds. I have only had Savannah a little over a month but she is already fitting right in.

LOL. I am fascinated by spiders but I mostly love tarantulas.

I have had my guy for about 8 months and it has been a joy. He says a few words and knows about 6 tricks. I am trying to get him to whistle. He mimics a few noises. He seems to like to talk the most. He loves performing tricks as well.

I am glad your girl is settling in. :) Never a dull moment around my house. LOL.

Savannah came to me already knowing a ton of words and potty trained. She most commonly says peekaboo, come here, what are you doing, go poopie, hungry, step up, and shower. But when the pots and pans come out, all hell breaks loose with the sound effects and new words I haven't even heard. lol.

I am currently trying to train her to shake and want to teach her to wave. I am new to all this bird training so it is taking a while. haha. What kind of tricks does you hahns do?

Well, that is good and I love the potty training part. :)

My guy just started talking about two months ago. He says Hi, Hello, Caca bird, shut up, step up, stop that and chatters to himself but only he knows what he is saying. I am trying to teach him other things. I am constantly talking and say everything I do. For example, when I leave for work, I tell him "mamma has to go to work" "Bye Bye" or when I put him to sleep at night (Yes, I have to stop him from playing. He plays until 10:30-11:00 pm at night) I say "night night."

His current tricks are waving "Hi" and he will use either foot. He backs up, dances, opens his wings, picks up toys and drops them in a cup, spins around in either direction that I cue him, and gives me kisses along with the kissing noise. Currently, I am working on him speaking on cue and a few other tricks. I also have him do his tricks out in public so he isn't shy to perform for others. He seems to really like it and trys to get my attention with some of the tricks. LOL

Do you have any videos of Savannah? :)
