New member with a mystery!

Hello there!

I have been a bird lover as long as I remember. I currently have a Cockatiel and a Galah.

But there may be a new addition to the flock - my grandmother has found a bird and all efforts to find its owner have been useless.

The bird is very sweet and tame, it jumped on my Gran's shoulder.

I'm hoping one of you guys can identify it, so I can know how to take care of it properly. It may help in finding its original owners, though I wouldn't be surprised if some idiot let it go because they didn't understand that parrots need a lot of love and attention...

PS: Those parrot emoticons are amazing. and look just like the budgies I grew up with.

Each species does have it's own quirks, but for the most part the guidelines for caring for a parrot are all about the same regardless of the type of parrot.

Wow, that was intelligent of me!

I am pretty sure it is an Indian ringneck, but I am not 100% sure.

Alexandrine or indian ringneck.

That's a female Indian Ringneck. If that was an Alexandrine, the bill would be completely red-orange. The black lower mandible is a sign that it is a Ringneck.

I hope you can find this precious little girl a home soon, don't give up yet. Seems like there would be someone out there who wants their Indian Ringneck back...they're such great birds. I would totally die if I lost my bird...

I totally agree, as I lost my cockatiel recently. He hung around for a while but I could never catch him. In the end he vanished. I'm convinced someone found him. Of course, I would let them keep him if I knew where he was as I'm a bit full up with budgies at the moment. I didn't know about the beak parrotqueen.

I won't give up finding her owners - I can only imagine how heartbroken they are.

The strangest thing is, the same day, probably within the hour or so, a cockatiel started hanging around my grandmother's yard. Haven't been able to catch him though but my gran put some seed out so the poor thing could have a good feed.

Very pretty little bird. I agree that it's probably a Ringneck. My Alexandrine has a very different looking face but same general shape - if that makes sense.

It makes perfect sense, HRH. My family wonders how I can tell my two male zebra finches apart, they all think they're exactly the same! I think that if you hang out with a bird all day, you just start noticing the features that make them differ from other birds. It's like getting to know a human face really well, and then you can identify the same individual in a crowd of people.

Wow, another lost bird?? I hope that you can find a way to catch it, or that some other nice person can rescue the poor thing. Have you seen it eating the seed at all?

Just imagine what is going through the poor birds mind, strange surrounding etc.
Pray you are able to find the owners.

Indeed - the cockatiel is eating the seed, and has drunk some water so at the very least it's not going hungry/thirsty.

Of course. Unfortunately he doesn't seem as tame so it will be a difficult job. We won't give up though.
