Guys and gals the search is over I have been picked by a 16 year old red Lored Amazon named bonkers. He is probably the sweetest bird I have ever Met he was brought into the pet store about 2 weeks ago after he spent a month in quarantine he is mildly plucked because his previous owners payed him no attention and almost never bathed him. I have been spending a couple hours a day with him to make sure we are right for each other and I just paid for him and now I am trying to pick out the right cage for him(do you guys have any suggestions) the cage I get will be shipped to the store so I will get the employee discount so he will be ready to come home around Halloween. I can't post pictures on my phone for some reason but trust me he is adorable.:green1:

Congrats on your RLA! My buddy Jimbo had one ( unfortunately "Jake" passed away in January after 32 years with him ).

I had met Jake on a number of times and he was quite the sweetheart.

Congrats on ur RLA , I never saw one IRL due to lacking of providing this parrot in my country. I hope the rest of ur parrots well like him.

Congratulations! How exciting! I'm glad you've been chosen! Looking forward to lots of homecoming photos!

How exciting to have been chosen by an amazon! I know you've been looking for one for a while now. You have a lot of fun times ahead:) Can't wait to see pics of your new little guy!

We got this cage for Kiwi. It's a great size, solid construction, the price is good and I personally like the smooth finish VS the slightly textured normal finish most cages have (I have the white, not sure if it is the same finish on other colors). Also, the seller was great about answering my questions about the cage before I bought it:

Poipu Palace Convertible Top Bird Cage, Large Bird Cages, Bird Cages at Bird Cages 4 Less

Quick question I heard that those open tops are a bad idea do you think so or do you not open the top at all

Open top can be a major danger!
Too bad you aren't closer to Orlando, there is a store down here that has an enormous selection at crazy prices. Picked up a cage for my wife (oh how I wish!), 140, have seen it at another store, $270! The dome top does give more headroom though! I just tightly tyewrap them!

I heard from BirdMan that amazons really like the playtop cages so I might look for one of those

Kiwi's old cage had the top open all the time with 0 issues (similar style), but this one we don't open the top on this one because the position of his favorite swing prevents it. Open tops can be dangerous, especially for particularly active birds and should never be open without supervision. It is really a judgement call on the owners part whether or not they feel it is safe for their individual bird. I never personally felt uncomfortable with his old cage, as the perch wedged in TIGHT and Kiwi never did anything too 'crazy' on the top of his cage that might've jiggled it or made it fall. He also can't fly and wasn't taking off or landing either. Up to you really if you open it or not. If you like to play it safe, there is a latch could be easily padlocked shut as well.

Amy has a play top..she lives on it!

CONGRATULATIONS! We know you have been looking for awhile. As far as cages, the main thing is BIG. Personally I am a flat top cage guy, makes finding or making a cover that much easier, and if you want to add a play stand to the top of it so much the better ( I dont - Saltys play area is right next to the kitchen table ). Again, Congrats on finding Bonkers.

I unfortunately cannot figure out how to post pictures even while using photo buckets.

Congratulations for having been chosen!! Wishing you a long and happy life together!!

I have both play top and dome top cages and greatly prefer the play top. While the dome top adds extra room, the play top can be far more versatile. My birds greatly prefer the added dimension up top as it feels like a different environment than an enclosed cage.
