Alexandrine parrot- Kiwi M;
Eastern Rosella(7-8y/o M)- Roselu RIP(12.12.2016);
Red-rumped parrot(7-8y/o M)- Verzel
Hello,
My name is Iuliana and i am new to this forum. Today i bought my first Alexandrine parrot and i am wondering if it's a female or a male, he/she is 8-9 months old, i think. The seller had 4 of them one looked like a female (smaller head) here are some pictures:

Edited to add: the seller said that he/she is 2 months old but i think he/she is older

Not the right person regarding an Alex to suggest whether its a male /female. But the Parrot clearly looks older than 2 months (Adult Feathering) and it appears that your feeding solid food.

I would recommend that you switch the tube water supply to a standard cup like you have for the dry foods. Its way to small for a Hook Bill Parrot to properly drink from.

Thank you SaliBoat for your answer, i will buy a water dish for him. the breeder/seller told me that he was born in 2016 so he must be max 9 months old. I am refraining for taking a DNA test, i am hoping he is a he because out of the 4 one clearly looked like a female to me: smaller head and a smooth transition between the beak/nose and the head

Well I am an Amazon Snob, so I will accept your opinion on its sex.

FYI: You may want to consider moving the natural wood branch from the left side of the food bowl to the right side. I think your Alex will like not rubbing his /her tail of the side of the cage.

Check with the Alex members regarding diet for your new baby and what toys they like to play with.

By the way; Welcome to the Parrot Forums! That is one Great Looking Baby you have there!

I will move the branch, but first i will give him time to adjust to the new environment. I picked him out of the other 2 males because he was the only one that came near the edge of the cage to me so he kinda picked me :) he is not shy, he started grinding his beak once i got him home, and i know that is a sign of relaxation

Welcome! Glad you found us. That is one good-looking Alexandrine. I admire their streamlined build and long wings and tail. Beautiful.

What a beautiful baby!!!!!
ADORABLE!!!!

Beautiful looking bird :D
Usually with Alexandrines you usually can immediately tell gender until 2 - 3 years (sometimes 18 months) by the appearance (or lack of) a ring. I'm not sure how accurate the other ways are. (I've been told open pelvis bones are female, but Jasper is DNA'd a male with the 'female' open pelvis bones...) :D :)

Hi Raixalotto, I am refraining from taking a DNA test, firstly because here it's not a common practice and it is quite pricy and secondly i don't like my hopes dashed :)
I hope he is a male because female animals don't seem to play well with me. As for the pelvis bones i am a long way from that, i just bought him and i'm not going to stress him like that ..yet

The toy was modified, i watched him playing with it and it's safe.

I wanted a parrot but got a bat instead <3

9 months old is an accurate age range, as the eyes look like they are just beginning to lighten.

Below is a photo of my male when he was 2 months.

Hi khaiqha!
I was inspecting his ring and it said 23 iv(or vi maybe April or June) 16(2016)

It's really hard to tell the gender of an Alex at that age without a DNA test, I would say probably a female because the beak looks streamline and a bit narroMales tend to have bulkier looking beaks but you won't know for sure until after a few molts.
