Green Cheek Conure
Hi Everyone, I'm new to the world of birds and parrotfurms.com, I'm a long time forum reader though and love them! So much useful info.

I purchased my first bird about 3-4 weeks ago, a 2 month old Green Cheek Conure I call "Loco". After much deliberation I decided on this name because of some of the nutty and amusing things Loco does :)

Being a first timer the first 2 weeks were interesting and a bit of a struggle at times but I'm happy to report that things are going well now. Loco seems to have settled in nicely and is a very affectionate little bird.

I'm very keen to get some good tips on training etc so I thought this would be a great place to start, a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all and I look forward to reading away!

Welcome!!!! Glad you're onboard with us!!!

Loco sounds like a blast! You will enjoy spending your life with him!

As for training, what would you like to know? Does Loco already know how to properly step-up?

Thanks :) Loco is really switched on, a very friendly bird. Seeing I had no problems putting my hand in the cage and having it jump on I've been using the step up command. Loco is getting the idea but I'm sure it takes time, and treats ;) I'm working on step off too.

I'm thinking of trying some potty training and maybe some tricks etc. I've read that first thing in the morning is good for potty training so I creep down stairs in the morning armed with some millet and then wake it up and bring it out of it's cage. I say "poop" until the big morning poop comes and reward it. I've read this is a good method?

Hi Adz

I am in Sydney only joined on here last week.

I have become the grandmother of an olive rainbow lorikeet who is just going on 6 weeks of age. My daughter's bird.

It is a massive learning curve, as I need to feed it during the day.

Cheers
