Hi, my boyfriend recently brought home two lovebirds, not sure what kind, he didn't ask. All the information given was they are a proven pair and they are a year old.
We've had them for 3 days, they appear to be relaxed in their cage, they are eating well, will look at me when I talk to them but as expected they are nervous and will fly away from me. Recently, the one that is meant to be a female, seems to be a little bit less nervous and will stay on her perch when I approach the cage. I also managed to get both of them to nibble off the end of a millet spray which I held in my hand inside the cage. I have let them out of the cage every day and they do fly back in themselves after about an hour usually. They have loads of toys which they are not interested in yet, I've been trying to show them how to play with them. I also have a selection of natural wood perches as well as the dowel rod one that was in the cage. They are eating and drinking well, and are both singing. When I came home from work yesterday they wouldn't shut up when they saw me and they were flying all around their cage and hoping around chattering which I hope means they were happy to see me.
I'm just a complete novice to this, I work with birds of prey so my boyfriend assumed that I would automatically know how to look after all birds - clearly he was wrong.
I was just hoping for any advice and some feedback on if what I am doing is correct.
I've uploaded a photo, sorry if it's not that good quality, and also excuse my wall, we were in the process of redecorating.
