So i was looking for a couple of love birds off of kijiji. I love animals and have been working with all types for many years. im 21. I recently had finch's, but unfortuantely gave them away. I wanted something more human involved. After lots of research, i found out that love birds LOVE human companionship. On kijiji, i found 2 beautiful boy love birds. (she said they were 60 on kijiji but then i got there and they were 60 EACH but HAD to buy as a pair... so stupid(still insanely cheep though)) i bought them anyways because they were the exact color i was looking for. an aquatic blue green body, with pink faces. (ill post a picture later). Anyways. when i went to pick them up, they were in a tiny tiny cage. (2by2?) and a nesting box that took up most of the cage. i asked her if they bit and she said no, but she got heavy duty gloves on to grab them. They were petrified of her.

Anyways i got them home, put them in a big cage with lots of food and space to fly. Im trying to teach them to get out of the cage for flying space, but heres the issue. They are petrified of me. Any time i walk into the room, they hide in the bed i bought them. its been about 5 days now and they still are sketched by me. when i first got them, i decided id clip their wings right then and there to get that over with so i wouldnt spoil their trust later (if i got any)

i did force them both out of the cage and tried to bond at one point. id hold them to my chest until they calmed down, then id rub their neck. one of the birds still screams at me and just tries to get away, but the others a little more ballsy. i got him to sit on my hand while i rub his neck. out of the 2, he is the one who wont imediately hide when i walk in the room, but he still does if i get too close. The other doesnt trust me at all.

they are 6 months old (apparently) and they are beautiful <3
what can i do to help these babies? how can i train them to love me?

i tried giving them treats by hand but they wont eat any treats at all. only bird food. :blue2::blue2: Thanks guys!

Those are actually called Orange faced. I used to have a pair of them and I dunno your location but I could get a pair for like $60 and handfed for around $50/ea.

The one must not be so petrified if he is sitting on your hand for the photo!

Just keep at it. It's only been 5 days, they are still adjusting. You are huge to them, they are what, 45-60 grams max? I'd be wary too.

Try googling or youtube for tips.
