New Illiger's Baby

I agree :)The green baby's face is priceless .
But I bet the red one is just as cute. I dont know how your going to pick just one , lolol. I do like the color red though :) Such a tough choice , but what a great position to be in , enjoy all of it :)

Ok, I've changed my mind. I love the expression on the green baby's face. He or she is very smiley.

Baby will be ready to go in the next week or so!

Still haven't picked our baby but they've grown so much!!

Their personalities are very similar at the moment - sweet, curious, active.

I think the baby with the red forehead is a little prettier, but the green baby is already saying "step up" ...

EEE so excited!!! :D

Thank you! I know - how do you make a decision when both are so adorable? I think I'll take them both :D

such gorgeous babies! one of my dream birds is an illiger's but there's no way i'll
be able to find one here. ;((((

Your baby Macaw is just over 3 months old. I don't know about the smaller Macaws but judging by my very large GW macaw, it was over 9 months old before he was truely weaned and was able to come home with me. Is 3 months enough time for your Macaw to go home with you. Will you hand feed your Macaw.
Advise on picking your new baby, I would advise you to let the Macaw pick you. Spend plenty of time with them, sit on the floor with the Macaws and see what Macaws comes to you more, do this time and time again and you should see that one will stand out, if so, then it was meant to be that this Macaw should be your new baby. Best of luck Joe

She can't. They are too far away.

Yep, too far away to visit unfortunately.

Illiger's are mini macaws and are typically weaned at 10-14 weeks. These guys were flying all over the place the week before last but have since been clipped. I'm very confident in this breeder and know she will only ship my baby once he/she is ready. I will not be hand feeding him - they're currently eating pellets with fresh fruits and veggies and a tiny bit of seed.

Next pictures should be of when I pick him up! :D

Just a FYI,
I hope this does not happen to you. When my Neleno was hatched, I would drive everyother weekend from MD to VA 6 hour drive to visit him while he was growing up. I was able to hold him, pet him and really get to know him and allow him to get to know me. I never had any issues with him, it seemed as if we bonded right away.
When it was time for him to come home after being fully weaned at approx 9 months or so, he was fine the first couple of days. Before the end of the week, I noticed that he was not eating as he was when I first brought him home. I knew it took time for the Macaw to adjust and most baby Macaws will lose some weight when you first bring them home eventhough they may know you. I guess it was due to his new cage, new home, and learning my schedule. I took off work the week I brought him so I could spend lots of time with him.
It was very important that I had him Vet checked everthough my breeder already had him vet checked. I wanted to make sure that he was healthy. At the end of his first week he stopped eating, he had regressed and the following week, I had to take him to the Vet everyday to be tube fed. After the 2nd week was over and after $800.00 vet billed. I called my breeder and demanded that she take him back so he could be weaned again.
I made the trip back to VA and after an additional 2-3 weeks, Neleno was ready to come home again.
Since then, he really adjusted well and is really healthy. They draw back was, before he regressed, he would step up for anyone who wanted to hold him, I am the only person he will allow near him. He is truely a one person Macaw. Please have a back up plan if your new Macaw regress. Thanks Joe

It is always important IF you were to purchase a baby bird from any breeder is to know how to handfeed yourself! IF you don't, ask the breeder to show you, IF you don't do it properly, you can easily kill the baby, but accidents do happen. I just had one last night that almost killed the baby bird that I took in. He was going berserk wanting to feed and I did not properly insert the syringe into his beak but before I had to chance to adjust he started thrusting against the syringe that I recently modify and I guess I didn't file down the tip down enough after I've made a cut as the syringe wasn't good this time and I guess the tip was too sharp and it poke his mouth to bleed. I've been bummed all night last night and all day today cause it really hurt my feelings that I hurt him. He's ok now. But that's the type of stuffs you must learn cause this can happen to anyone!

Before I picked up my baby conure she stayed with the breeder an extra 2-3 weeks just to be sure she was weaned and wasn't going to regress. That 3 months I waited to bring her home sure was hard, but I felt it was the best thing to do. She was a very caring breeder though and even though she had 150 birds, she kept them longer just to be sure they were ready to go to their new homes.

If caring for the bird in your remote location is a problem then you should definately wait. However if you would like to obtain one then your breeder can supply one as long as the proped forms are signed to transport the bird.

Thank you very much! I will be picking up my new baby on Friday!! :D

I chose the baby without the red on his forehead. I was really having difficulty choosing based on photos alone, but the breeder said this guy is more affectionate and outgoing with people and he's also talking already.

I have been thinking about names, but gosh for some reason I think bird names are the hardest ones to come up with! I'm open to suggestions ;)

Arrival pictures soon to come! :)

Oh yay the name game :) I love this game , lolol.
Clover-boy
Chloe-girl
Tyson-boy
Nemo-boy
Iko-boy
Nando-boy
Naria-girl
Nina-girl

These are off the top of my head , we just had a litter and we are up to the "N" litter , so hence the all the "N" names , lolol.

Gibbs-boy
Yogi-boy
Jilly-girl
Lexi-girl

I could go on forever , lolol...not sure what kind of names you like. Do you like people names or history names or maybe Island names ....
So much fun doing this , even if it isnt for my bird , lol.

Oh, I'm so excited for you! He is so cute, I admit, maybe it's a bird I should have gotten as well. I always wanted a GW, and always talked myself out of it.

Let me look at the pictures again and see if a name jumps out at me. But, I've had more than 100 abandoned cats here in the last 2 decades so I'm kind of named out myself.

Are you allowed to go and interact with them?

No, unfortunately. :( I haven't been able to find a local breeder so this baby will be flying from Missouri..the airport arrival will be our first meeting!
Did you get your baby from Kathy? If so, I'm getting her 7 yr old male in July. I truly have not been able to sleep since I first saw his picture. How is itgoing so far?
