Well I guess I will start off by saying Osiyo that means Hello :) My name is Katherine. I always grew up around birds with my Grandmother, and she had a Blue and Gold a Mexican redhead (it was an amazon) and of course a U2 Cockatoo. I took on the Too when she passed away and he passed away 3 years ago due to old age... Afterwards I got a Congo African Grey named squeakers, he is now up to 400 words counted and documented but in my heart deep down I have always wanted my own Macaw... It has taken years, I found some who were habitual pluckers that I almost felt bad for, people who got them got bit once and quit handling them or people who got them then didnt have enough time. My Recent encounter had been with a Scarlet she was a plucker just her back...but that was not what deterred me, she had not gotten enough handling and had a severe dominance complex...she bit me hard enough on the fore arm BARELY missing my vein in the bend the bite was deep enough it needed to be sutured... I continued spending the day with her but to no avail even with her step up she was prone to random biting "Just because" and there was no trust, she was 16...At any rate my following encounter was with a Green Wing Macaw his name is Cheveyo. they thought he was a she but I am almost positive he is a male....I watched his body language he danced he bobbed his head but never stomped his foot never bowed his head in an aggressive/territorial manner. The Owner had gotten another bird and this one did not seem to take to him at all, He immediately stepped up and put his head in my chest, Once approached he did offer to bite (at the guy NOT at me!!! hehe) I was easily able to handle him stroke him then when I was talking to the guy it happened, before I could react he stretched enough took my lip in his mouth All I could think was, "Well a lip ring might be nice" and he "Kissed" me on the mouth. Yes it was love and yes I took him home that night...it has been 4 days now. We are Military HOWEVER he has a nice size cage he is ONLY in for 2 reasons, bedtime and when I have to run to the Dr for an appointment otherwise he is out..he perches with me and when cooking he sits on the chair and watches... his diet consists of a Kaytee Pelleted food mixed with a nut/seed mixture each day when I cook I fix him and the grey veggies and if I am eating I ALWAYS offer up what I am having...it seems I didn't have to look for my Macaw he found me. I can never work my health wont allow, we can never deploy over seas again health will not allow...but I AM new so I welcome all advice if I do anything wrong

Sweet story, I'm glad you found each other. Beautiful grey & a great talker too! Look forward to hearing more about them. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome! Thanks for the sharing the story. All a bird needs is a healthy diet, love, and some toys (ok, exercise too). Everything else is gravy. :)

Thank you for the warm welcome :) He is becoming family quick though for the next two weeks I am going out of town but my parents are fid sitting (Feather kid) unfortunately I feel an 18hr drive one way would be too stressful but have left STRICT instructions on how to care for them... I converted to using water bottles for them do you guys do that or are you still on water bowls?
