I'm interested in getting a parrotlet this Christmas as a gift from my boyfriend. I have two budgies, Bug and Gus, and Juno the ferret. I'm just wondering what experiences anyone who has owned a parrotlet has had with them and if I would realistically be able to give a new parrotlet the attention and time it needs. I work anywhere from 28-40 hours a week, and have two days off during the week while my boyfriend is off on the weekends and works 40+ hours during the week. We make it work with our pets we have now as our ferret is really the only one who demands our attention/affection. Bug and Gus are very bonded to each other and don't desire our attention unless we have treats, we just give them free reign of the bedroom whenever we can. Juno is out about 3 hours a day playing with us in the living room and sleeps the rest of the time because she's lazy
How much one on one time does a single parrotlet require? I already have a cage and a bunch of toys, so the cost isn't a problem. I'm just wondering if my boyfriend and I could realistically juggle our time between Juno, a parrotlet, work, and our social lives. We usually only go out once a week. I would keep the parrotlet in the living room with us where we spend most of our time, so even if he isn't out he is still included and getting attention. I would only get one as I would want him to be bonded to us. The ferret is very well trained and has no interest in my budgies whenever she is in the bedroom with me, so having a parrotlet is not a concern in that area because he would be up high where she probably wouldn't even know he was there anyway. She's not much of a hunter. Parrotlet would only be out when Juno is in her cage sleeping/eating. Opinions? Any info on parrotlets I would need to know? I have always loved them and have my heart set on having one in the future, but only if we could give him a happy life and enough time with us.
And since I'm new, here's Juno:
