1 Military Macaw
My fiancée moved from CA to MA with an albino Cockatiel. This little bird doesn't like anybody but her mommy (who is a true bird whisperer) so after 8 months or so I got a green cheek we call "Monkey Boy" because of the sounds he makes.

While up at the exotic bird store my fiancée fell in love with a baby Gala and she bought her. While we would go up to bond with the Gala I saw this little Macaw and was informed that it was a Severe Macaw and I would play with him while my fiancée played with her gala. He was 20 years old and quite nasty to the store staff. They had to towel him all the time. I bonded with him and took him home. After two weeks, he decided he loved my fiancée and jealousy issues started. Now I can't even be in the same room with both of them or I'll get attacked by him. He is her bird now. She felt bad and because I had taken an interest in a military macaw that was ten years old she bought him for me. She didn't know that I was afraid of him and before we took him home I said I was was afraid and so she again took pity on me and bought me a baby female eclectus who, besides my fiancée, is the love of my life.

Once the military macaw came home, within two days he went from being a scary giant bird to a love muffin. He still prefers women but I have done so much with him in a short time. I have been clicker training him and he loves it. His training time with me is so much fun. I began to train him to accept my petting him and now he loves spending time with me (although not as much as when women are around). I take him to Dunkin' Donuts on my shoulder and all the staff go crazy when he is there. He always says "how are ya" to the ladies behind the counter and they give him treats. We call him our big green chicken.

My baby eclectus is still weaning at 4 months old but really seems to have bonded tightly to me which is wonderful. The plan is to quit my day job in medicine and work from home as a sound designer and I hope she will be my constant companion in the studio. So far all the voice talent and film directors I have visit the studio love her and think it is so neat to have a bird help with the mixes. I have even recorded her screaming and put it in a few films where there were outdoor scenes that required ambient bird sounds.

It is weird to think that I have only lived with birds for a little under two years and couldn't imagine a life without them.

Oh yeah, when I was 17 I rescued a pigeon toed baby duck. It was my companion that whole summer and flew away in the fall. One year later she brought her brood to my house just to say "see daddy, I am good on my own now". That was the last I ever saw of her.
