New here :) also which cockatiel should I get?

Hello...

So I have a 2 year old male blue and violet budgie called kody... He is a funny little fella he even barks which cracks me up

But I'm interested in getting a handraised cockatiel, I have found these two really good breeders in my area they are $80 btw... But I need help figuring which mutation I should get... So I'll post a picture of the two different motions she has... I think one is a grey pied cockatiel and the other is a black and white lutino cockatiel?

Also I got told that lutino cockatiels are are normally blind and deaths and also harder to train? Is that true... Thanks you

I don't know much about tiels, but I thought all lutinos were yellow since that's what the name means.

Well I think the person who told me that the black and white ' lutino ' was wrong...

I'd visit the birds and pick the one you bond with the best. Personally, I'd have no qualms getting a lutino.

I had a Lutino tiel many years ago. The 'pearl' mutation only stays that way in females. The male pearls molt out with maturity, and I'm not sure if they end up looking completely normal or if they're still a bit pearled? The whiteface gray males are one of my favorite tiel mutations. All depends on what you personally like the looks of, or as Karen said the one you seem to click with the best.

I heard that females tend to stay sweeter versus the male but that's only with a general statement as you might find one that's completely opposite of what people or websites have said. It really depends on the bond between you and the bird.

I think the black and lutino one is just a pied. (Most likely a heavy pied, those are my favorites!). I'm not sure on the different temperament each mutation has but I know that Lutino's have a bald patch that's genetically passed on due to inbreeding for that specific colors. There's another mutation that's more sensitive to light but I can't remember the name (ugh!).

You guys are totally correct. Lutino is all yellow, heavy white is pied, mostly gray is normal gray, and pearled will stay that way only if female. One other thing I want to add is that male could sing nicely. And I agree that the best way is to let the bird choose you. They are all beautiful BTW pictures and description of colors are available on the net

I agree, go look at them and see which one you like and likes you. I used to raise cockatiels years ago, and I didn't notice a difference in temperament between the sexes. The males seemed to be a little more vocal, but easier to teach to whistle/sing. Lutino's are yellow and I don't know what the blind/deaf thing you heard about is?? Good luck and keep us posted!
