Hi there...I've been reading through this forum for quite some time before getting my beautiful new addition just yesterday! He is an almost 7 year old Goffin's. We are his 3rd (and final) family. My husband and I decided to get a Goffin's when we came across one in our local feed store and her and my husband were instantly connected. We did quite a but of research on this breed. We like the fact that they are the smallest of the cockatoos because we haven't had any experience with big birds other than what we've been reading. So he seems to have settled in nicely. His previous owner told me not to expect him to talk for about a week but he's been talking up a storm since about 3 hours after arriving home. He ate supper with me at the dinner table last night (on my shoulder) and we snuggled and loved on each other for a couple of hours before it was bedtime. He does pretty well with my husband although he gave him a bite when my husband tried to take him off of me. He also flew at my 7 year old, landed o. his shoulder and bit his shoulder. I'm not too clear what his true intentions were. I know that we are probably going through a honeymoon phase right now and he can very well change his attitude toward me, but as of right now I'm just smitten!! I want to do everything right. I want him to love everyone in the family and I know its going to take time, trust and training. Having the support of other cockatoo owners means a lot. I am open to any and all suggestions on how to give him the very best start possible in his new home!! Look forward to hearing from you all!! :white1:

I also wanted to mention that his previous owner never allowed him to be on her shoulder. He seems happiest and most affectionate when hes on mine. Is this a bad way to start out? The only time he gives me trouble is when I'm trying to get him o.to his play stand. He definitely protests and give me a couple of little bites to let me know he's not very hes not very happy about it. :white1: what do you suggest?

Hello and welcome to the forum: Congrats on your new addition.

Thanks for the welcome! I will post some pictures of him soon. He's a little shy of the camera! :greenyellow: And I hope that I will have some goffin's owners get back to me, I can use all the help I can get. lol

We have a 7 yr. old female goffin, named Sassy. She came to us in May of this year. She is a DOLL! We also have an umbrella 'too and the difference in their noise level is HUGE!

Sassy is always hanging out on my, or hubby's shoulder, I know a lot of people don't recommend this, for obvious reasons, but we've never had any issues with it.

Welcome to the forum and we're looking forward to some pics!
