I'd started researching different breeders of Galahs in my area with the plans of putting my name on the waiting list ready for next seasons babies.
Well, I didn't get that far... I went to my local pet store today to get pellets for my other Fids, and they had some Galahs in store. Went to say hello, and there was one who straight away started hanging upside down on the front of the cage right in front of me and 'showing off'. My partner called me over to see what he was looking at, and as soon as I walked away, this Galah started squawking at me. So I went back to her and straight away she stopped and started the cute little sounds they make.
Anyway, long story short, I decided she was asking me to take her home - so I did
I want to state that this was NOT a decision made on a whim!
I've been researching Galahs for years, and have always planned on getting one. I grew up with a Galah who my parents still have, he turns 17 this year.
The pet store I bought her from is a small family run business, has a great reputation and is where I got my Lovebirds from. There birds come with a Health Guarantee and I'll be making an appointment with my A-Vet first thing Monday.
I've named her Punky, although this may change lol... She's apparently 5 months old, and not hand tame - although with the way she's been so far I'm hoping that won't be too hard to accomplish. I also have absolutely no idea whether she is actually a SHE lol, but to me she's a she until I find out otherwise
She's in quarantine at the moment, and by that I mean she is living in my bedroom and the other Fids are in the loungeroom on the other side of the house. It's the best I can do other than putting her in the garage (and it is WAYYYY too cold here right now to do that!)
She seems to be settling in great, doesn't seem nervous at all. I'm trying to leave her be for now and let her get used to the new surroundings etc first, but she spent a fair bit of time right at the front of the cage 'talking' to me before going to sleep. She seems pretty keen for some interaction, so will see how we go tomorrow with getting a bit closer
