New Galah - question

Hello there
I am new in this forum. My mum got a galah. I have not met him yet, but have seen his photo and heard/read about him. And from what i heard, he is a chewer - BIG TIME! My mum says that he will sit on your arm; perfect qt that; a friendly and cute little fella; however, he will not stop chewing on your clothes, hands, fingers and whatever he can reach - non stop!

Is this normal? How can we teach him to stop?

I will be back home to the galah on the 25th but for now, would love to do my learning about raising and taking care of the galah.

galahs LOVE to chew and shred! lots of wooden toys and shredding toys will be needed! once in his cage mine will chew and chomp all day but when he's on me he will sit nicely for a cuddle!

ok! Chewable toys for a galah is in order. We will put the toys in his cage.

how can we teach him to only chew the toys and not the skin? Is it possible to teach him to just be cuddled while on you rather than chewing on u?

yes, rocky started out nibbling me and chewing my clothes, i would give him something to chew while he was on me ( a piece of materieal or wood) and then give him a fuss. he now drops the toy and has a fuss, but it works to distract him if he starts chewing me! also his cage has lots of chewable toys and a catalogue in the bottom that he will rip to shreds, he looks like he's off to work cos as soon as i get uo he's down there ripping and only stops for a lunch break LOL
i think by the afternoon he's tired from chewing and thats when he comes out, after he's chewed everything. so get him tired before he sits on you and distract him with something he likes to chew! x

Thank u so much for the tip. So we should keep him busy enough so that by the time we let him out, he can enjoy the cuddle and gets bored of the nibble And start it by giving him something to be busy with while being on me.

Your rocky sounds like such a cutie in personality ^_^ i cant wait to meet mine. I spoke to mum today and she says that ours is getting used to family memberes pretty well, i can not wait for him to meet me. :red:
